I'm Poi, and this is the Liminal Space Iceberg Explained video.
I love Liminal Spaces so much. They are so nostalgic, scary, comforting, unsettling, and just beautiful! Liminal spaces remind me of the Backrooms and I love the Backrooms!! I found an iceberg that goes into this, so I decided to explain the iceberg explained. I hope you guys enjoy!
"A liminal space is the time between the 'what was' and the 'next.' It is a place of transition, waiting, and not knowing. Liminal space is where all transformation takes place, if we learn to wait and let it form us." - r/LiminalSpace
"The aesthetic known as a Liminal Space is a location which is a transition between two other locations, or states of being. Typically these are abandoned, and oftentimes empty - a mall at 4am or a school hallway during summer, for example. This makes it feel frozen and slightly unsettling, but also familiar to our minds." - Aesthetics Wiki
This iceberg talks about stuff like abandoned buildings, aesthetics, schools at night, and liminal spaces. It's disturbing, unsettling, and creepy, nostalgic, and comforting

Something I heard a while ago was that a large part of the liminal space vibe was that there has to be no defining factors in a space. ie if you're looking at an example of a grocery store, when inspecting the image closer there are no large brands or indicators of there being anything commercial. It causes the brain to recognise that this is a space you've been in, but because there are no defining factors it leaves an empty feeling of the unknown which then creates the unsettling feeling. I wouldn't be surprised if it's were similar to uncanny valley.

The pure cognitive dissonance I get when it comes to liminal spaces is magnificent. I always look at these images and experience such a wide array of emotions and thoughts in such a short time. It’s disturbing, fascinating, and terrifying; the thought that these simple images, this simple array of red, green, and blue pixels, is capable of making me feel so many things. Great video, poi.

I have always been fascinated by liminal spaces because they remind me of dreams I've had on top of the nostalgia feel some of them have. I also love the eeriness. They play with "Nothing is Scarier", with how ambient and lonely they are. It's why I prefer The Backrooms stories when there are no monsters or if there are monsters they aren't the kind that chase.

yeah literally, if anything the modern take on the backrooms (all those dumb levels or silly entities and organisations just making colonies inside of the backrooms or some other horseshit) is the ultimate misunderstanding on what the backrooms are, because im sorry but the fact the backrooms turned into the shitty and unoriginal version of SCP and the thing where you can hop between different levels like its just some dumb video game made the backrooms lose its spark of authenticity and the liminality as a whole, "oh if you twerk your bussy at level S3X69 the entity "the Skibidi Rizzler" will appear and eat your peepee! then you need to run and find the red door that read "GYATT" and it will take you to the level 60065, and remember you need to drink the almond water to stay safe !!!1!"

Some liminal spaces ive seen irl or places ive seen that look like liminal spaces (some have stories): - Abandoned ToysRus - Abandoned Shopko - Empty school halls (after school) - Places that look similar to the backrooms but aren't the backrooms - A place that feels like a liminal space is just being home alone and looking around at how empty my house is is just cool - My dads parents house basement looks like a liminal space - In my parents car at like 9 pm while the sun is setting sitting in the window looking at the sun setting Infront of a dairy queen (ik its very specific but It felt like a dream like it didnt feel real but it was and it was cool) I can add more stories and places if you want me to

Also when I was in middle school when I did the play the school would be so weird feeling when we had play rehearsals at night, even though i wasnt the only person there it still felt like a liminal space Edit: The "Places youve seen in your dreams" video is how i was introduced to liminal spaces

I think the whole argument of monsters in the backrooms kinda defeats the purpose of the backrooms. The whole point of the backrooms is that its for the person exploring it, for some thats a video game esk world with levels filled with monsters and for others its an ever expansive world of nothingness for some its traumatic childhood memories. I think trying to gatekeep what the backrooms should and shouldn't be ruins the point, it should be whatever you want it to be

I have too correct you that there is a monster in the original backrooms. No I'm not talking about the copy SCP version of the backrooms people are into now. I'm talking about the original backrooms post. No there isn't silly looking monsters, but there is an monster that isnt silly looking. 2:46 That "traffic lights, when there are no cars around" reminded me of footage taken in pripyat, in may 1986, just days after the Chornobyl disaster happened and well, city wasn't in ruin and (at least some) electricity was working and in this footage, there were traffic lights, that were still changing for a cars and people, even though few days prior, the pripyat became basically a ghost town.

@tygra2886 Ай бұрын
@@kryvyi_juan The latter :) I'm not ukrainian, i'm from poland, But i respect the correct pronunciation BTW. Funfact: This isn't the case in english, but in polish, since the Russian Invasion, many people have returned to saying "W ukrainie" (in ukraine) instead of commonly used before "na ukrainie" ("on" ukraine) - basically, "na" in that context is used to describe commonly (but not always - there are exceptions, like "na słowacji" ("on" slovakia) or "na węgrzech" ("on" hungary) Places that are... idk... kinda a part/land of some other country, like voivodeship, for example, we say that "we were on vacation "on" masuria" or "on" lower silesia" etc. So basically, if polish people use "in" ukraine instead of "on", basically this means, that they consider Ukraine as an independent country, not just a "land" or part of something else.

Just found your channel today cant wait to get through all of your weirdness lol looks great so far already subscribed and even set notifications for all videos which I hardly do I only have around 6 channels with all vids switched on the other 150+ are none at all but really liking the look of ur topics and obscurity so giving it a chance, impressed so far. To the point, no bs, simple but well summarised explanations and intelligent research you sound like you actually understand your narrative and are not just reading wiki word for word to us throughout and actually name any quotes or references which is refreshing as there's so many channels consisting of an entire wiki page being read like a kid when they had to read out loud in class and were so bored they developed an hypnotic repetitive speech pattern with no expression or awareness of what they've even just read they're so deep in the subconscious automatic behaviour mode, like if they were old enough they'd end up driving themselves home too without even recalling leaving school let alone driving lol we all know we do it too lol Anyway really enjoying the channel, thanks! ❤

Great video! I hope I won't sound too harsh, but the visual and description in your videos would really win if instead of some random gameplays, you would show more pictures of what you're talking about, when you're talking about it. Even just one still picture kept on screen if you don't find more, because it really take a toll on the experience when you distract us like that with unrelated visual... Anyway, thanks for the great uploads! I've been loving the 'Psychological Horror Icebergs'! -Even tho I already saw all those movies haha...- Keep up the good work! 💙

My favorite kind of liminal spaces are the ones with the perfect skies, wide open fields, and dreamy suburbia. Something about seeing perfect day and perfect grass makes me feel some kind of way for some reason. Also, at 21:55 do you mean that the image itself is overexposed lighting wise? Or do you mean like it's passed around the internet too much? Because the image is nowhere near overexposed lighting wise. This image is actually remarkably well exposed. Both the whites and the blacks are perfectly just out of being blown out.

@5:21 This area is the irl recreation of NERV HQ from the very psychological 1995 anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. I believe this is specifically a recreation from a theme park, which is odd given a lot of the fucked up stuff that happens in that franchise. The environments in that series can be quite liminal, to say the least. The anime itself delves into a lot of dark themes of social and emotional isolation, so it's fitting imo.

tf2 2fort is a liminal space. 2 big forts in the middle of nowhere one looking like a barn and other like abandoned factory . anyway. all tf2 maps when there are no players feel very liminal.(tf2 is a source game like garry's mod)

The vocal fry really started becoming more noticeable when he said "the Beatles are hella overrated." I'm not even a massive Beatles fan but calling them overrated just tells me you don't know anything about music history.

Lose the shawty stuff lol Your narration when you're using more illustrative and vivid language is very informative and engaging and it genuinely took me out of it whenever you said shawty and also drew attention to it. You do a very nice job of bringing a personal angle to your read on these with anecdotal and personal bits you add, you don't need any faux-quirky catchphrase lol. Keep up the good work, hope this comment finds you well.
