Bentley Batur Convertible
Bentley's W-12 engine continues its farewell tour. One of his last shows was at Batur, named after a crater lake in Kintamani on the Indonesian island of Bali. This is actually the convertible version of the Batur Coupe launched in 2022, but it's much more special. While the convertible was limited to 16 units, the fixed-roof model was produced in 18 units.
Although it is not the last Bentley with a twin-turbocharged, 6.0-liter engine, the Batur Cabrio is among the last models to feature a twelve-cylinder power plant. It uses the most powerful iteration of the W-12 to date, with a staggering 740 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque. Predictably, the convertible matches the sound the coupe makes. The massive engine will be retired sometime this summer.
The venerable TSI engine has been around for over 20 years; During this period, it gained approximately 40 percent more power and fuel consumption decreased by 25 percent. All this appeal is channeled to the road via an eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission, perfectly designed for a generous grand tourer. Bentley's engineers fabricated the entire Akrapovič exhaust system from titanium, including massive 3D-printed exhaust fairings.
All official images show the Batur Cabrio with the roof folded, but we know that the sunroof is hidden behind the seats. It takes just 19 seconds to lower or raise the roof by simply pressing a button. The procedure can only be performed while the vehicle is moving at speeds up to 30 mph. The Crewe-based carmaker promises endless personalization options by customizing every inch of the car.
While Bentley offers the car with a strictly two-seat layout, the Continental GT Convertible is more practical as it leaves more room for rear passengers. Compared to the Coupe with an active rear spoiler, the new variant with infinite headroom has an integrated ducktail spoiler. The 22-inch wheels have a different design and there is now a trunk lid that hides the fabric roof when folded.
The ultra-luxury British brand says this Batur Convertible Car #0 prototype is as stylish as subsequent production cars. It features a striking Vermillion Gloss satin paint finish combined with glossy carbon fiber accents. There are rose gold trims inside to match your iPhone. The luxurious cabin is reminiscent of the Continental GT Convertible, with its fair share of traditional buttons, a trio of old-school dials and an analogue clock.
Bentley remains tight-lipped about pricing, but the Batur Convertible costs around at least the $2.1 million the Volkswagen Group brand is demanding for the sold-out coupe.
