So happy to find these others! I thought there were only 2. They helped me so much! Thanks Dr. Limmer!!!! My 2nd round of NREMT ...

What we are learning in our EMT basic class right now is that the rule is to suction no longer than 10 seconds, unless the patient continues vomiting. Then you suction as quickly as possible for as long as they are vomiting. We have the Pearson textbook and this is directly from there

Totally agree! As lead author of that textbook, I congratulate you and your educator for knowing this! The question on this Jeopardy talked about persistent vomiting so "as long as it takes to remove the vomit" is correct. If you can get it all in 10 or 15 seconds, great. But never, ever ventilate foreign material into the lungs that could have been suctioned.

I agree, and we use the Pearson textbook, however, on our state law psychomotor it’s actually a critical fail to suction for more than 10 seconds so 🤷🏻♀️

AHA for advanced airway is 1 breath over 1 second every 5-6 seconds (10-12 per minute). You can give breaths every 5-6 seconds but squeeze really fast, that cause gastric expansion. I haven’t seen asynchronous in any textbook, I guess it’s semantics.

@suncoastrealestatemedia - The AHA says this and uses the word “asynchronous.” Ventilations are also once every 6 seconds (not 5 - 6 seconds). "Once an advanced airway is in place during cardiac arrest, the providers performing CPR should no longer deliver cycles of CPR (ie, compressions interrupted by pauses for ventilation). Instead, the compressing provider should give continuous chest compressions at a rate of 100 to 120 per minute without pauses for ventilation. Ventilation is then provided at a rate of 10 breaths per minute (1 breath every 6 seconds). Asynchronous breaths are delivered unless ventilation can only be delivered successfully when compressions are paused. Providers should avoid delivering excessive ventilation during CPR because doing so can compromise venous return and cardiac output and decrease cerebral blood flow by causing direct vasoconstriction." Oxygen is 2 pins, 2&5 on the index chart. There’s no 3 pin gas regulator.
@Limmereducation3 ай бұрын
Technically, you are correct. There are two pins but three parts to line up. The pins ensure the position and that it is an oxygen regulator. The third part that connects to the cylinder has a washer attached and this is where the oxygen flows from.

@@Limmereducationthis is why the NREMT test is trash. To many trick questions. There are 2 pins and a valve?
