With Milan Fashion Week underway, the spotlight is once again on the textile and fashion industry’s outsized environmental impact. Each year, in Europe alone, fashion consumes 24 billion cubic metres of water-enough to fill 10 million Olympic pools or supply Europe for 15 months. The industry is also the EU’s fourth-largest polluter, owing to its intensive use of essential raw materials.
To tackle the climate crisis, the sector must embrace sustainable practices. Watch our video with Il Sole 24 Ore to see how Limonta, a 130-year-old textiles company, uses a trigeneration system for electricity, heat, and cooling, while expanding solar energy to boost efficiency and cut waste and pollution.
