This inexplicably made me tear up, lol. I'm sorry you didn't get to do it this year. I hope next year goes better if you're still in high school. My Choir teacher had emergency heart surgery during the first semester of my senior year. We were about a week away from our 3rd Annual Disney Spectacular, obviously, it was canceled. I know what it's like to get invested and excited about doing a production, then having it suddenly not happen.

The same people saying Lin can’t sing are the people that comment on a tone deaf girl’s instagram story singing Oceans telling her how incredible she sounds. Singing may not be his strongest talent, but he can absolutely carry a tune and stay on pitch and sound pretty darn good doing it. That is literally the definition of being able to sing!
@gracemangum4 жыл бұрын
So true. Also this is an incredibly difficult song to get right!
@dearchloe31754 жыл бұрын
Abigail Cunningham That may be one definition of singing, but it is not the definition of being a good, Broadway singer, and as a professional, Broadway performer people understandably expect him to be good. This song is too technically difficult for him: his technique isn't skilled, his pitch is all over the place, and because of these his singing isn't moving. But it's to celebrate Sondheim's birthday and just to make people happy during the pandemic, so none of this matters.
@dwale18604 жыл бұрын
One of the things I loved about Hamilton is that not everyone had typically Broadway voices. They have different styles which made it feel like you don't have to have that certain voice type to be a musical performer
@sarahcoleman52694 жыл бұрын
Yeaaaah... I literally just watched another fairly famous person known for doing Broadway sing a song from the same production... It was sweet, but you can very much tell that they did not warm their voice up or refresh themselves on the words before recording. I appreciated the sentiment, though.
@ricardogwuff49784 жыл бұрын
@@dearchloe3175 nah dude lin has been a big inspiration for me to find my own way of singing. Broadway is changing and more people are starting to make their own unique sound! Like now I can FINALLY distinguish different actors in cast recordings! Also, I can tell that Lin did not just grew up with Broadway but also many Hispanic songs. His voice and style of music really reminds me of old songs that my dad use to listen to. Its okay to not like someones singing because its different, just don't criticize it or say its not up to Broadway standards.

You really need to be an incredible singer to sing Sondheim perfectly. It’s actually recommended by acting teachers not to choose anything Sondheim wrote as an audition song. Lin does a great job. This song in particular is an incredibly difficult song that moves through a very large musical range; often people will have a “break” between upper and lower ranges in a song. Lin does this very well.

People need to understand something serious here. Lin is wonderfully gifted as a songwriter - lyricist and music. He's a gifted musical arranger, playwright and performer. But if a person decided to show up to a Broadway audition and had Lin's voice, I can promise you that 99.9% of the time, they would not be getting the role. Lin is an actor, who can dance some and sing some. This makes him an all-around decent performer. But note he never made any effort to be a singer, or a rapper (thinking of Hamilton now). This was never his goal. His goal, which he has achieved astronomical success with, are his Tony winning In The Heights and his multiple Tony winning Hamilton an American Musical. He has performed in both of them and it is clear and obvious that just about every other singer on the stages with him are really singers -- and that's fine! This makes it possible for Lin to use all of the ability that he has, to the BEST of his ability, to evoke emotion in his performances and sing the very best that he can - and that is all that anyone can every ask of a performer in the first place. But no, Lin is NOT a singer, not in the Broadway sensibility of the word. Nope. But I love him though. Love love love his gifted talented brilliance!

What you said is amazing! Thumbs up for that! 👍

He also inspired me to become a Broadway playwright, a lyricist, and a Broadway performer as well. If I met him, I would tell him that he inspired me to do so much. I love writing books and scripts, and Lin inspired me to write more. I even want to turn his most underrated movie, "Vivo," into a real Broadway musical (even though I'm in high school) and honor his work. Wrote a full script and 17 new songs for the musical. I even wrote a letter explaining the entire thing, but I haven't sent it yet. Meeting Lin Manuel Miranda himself would be a dream come true for me. I'd tell him how much he inspired me to be a writer and performer. P.S. And like him, I do not have a great singing voice as well, and I'm an alto singer, but I always try to act while singing, because I want to tell the story through a song. Sometimes I cry while doing it too.

The more things I find that this man can do, the more times he surprises me, the more I grow to love him ❤️ 💕 He can act and sing, both at the same time. I’m a sucker for a performer who can do that. Not only that, I share his reverence for Sondheim, I love Hamilton (who doesn’t?), and then he went full Disney with Mary Poppins. Amazing. And whoever said he couldn’t sing, pffffft to you.

@sherlockjr243 жыл бұрын
@@deenadallas2802 Well, to be fair, he apparently got voice lessons at some point. The difference between his singing on Hamilton and on some of his work afterward is dramatically better. It wasn't that he couldn't sing. It was that he was untrained.
