Love the sight of that old John Deere 36B operating. I used to live over near Waukon south of Reardan. We used to ride motorcycles over the county farm road between Magnusun and Hanning Buttes. On the west side, there was an old barn that had an old 36B inside it half sunk in the dirt. The barn sat at the bottom of a draw. Would have loved to have found the owner and got it running again. It had the old Hansen leveler on it and everything. Brings back memories. That was about 1990 - 1995 that I saw that old machine.

Been searching for videos of these old harvesters just like this! We pulled ours with a cat D7. My dad and grand dad had built a sun shade over the header control wheel because it was just too hot in central California not too ! When I was 14 in the 70's I learned how to drive moving the grain truck from one side of the field to the other for unloading. We stored the barley in Butler bins to sell in winter!

In Minnesota we called this "straight combining", when you cut it and harvest it at the same time. We always swathed before we combined. Our first combine was an Oliver combine with a John Deere engine; we pulled it with a 1937 John Deere model A.

I would love to restore one of those old combines someday. There is a Minneapolis Moline and two Baldwin pull type combines a couple miles away from me, but the guy won’t do anything with them or sell them. Sad.

That is a shame when people do that. Some interesting old machines have gone to scrap because people just rather let them sit and rot than let them go to good use. I have two Gleaners A's in England. A 1960 one and a 1964 one both working originals. They were built over here at the Allis factory in Lincolnshire. The factory was actually the English Minneapolis Moline combine factory. I would like to see an MM combine. The combine collectors here have been looking for one for years but apparently none left. Reported to have been excellent combines.

pretty cool this is why the motorized combine was invented Does a modern combine do a better job than these or what?
@rockyfitzp2 жыл бұрын
some of these type combines did a great job even compared to new ones. Like all machine makes a lot of difference on the time and care of setting it up right.
@BrianDHoefs4 жыл бұрын
I’ve never seen a combine like that. If they were windrowing that straw, it would make a lot of bedding.
@rustyrelicsfarm24067 жыл бұрын
with all 3 of these machines you can still do a lot of work with these.

Behind the cutter bar and the reel, there's a big long boom with some circular weights or something on the end of it. What were these for? Something to do with balance? Thanks, just curious. I'm an old guy and have run some old combines, but these babies look old even to me!
@chrishedding87588 жыл бұрын
it's a header balance beam
@defuse568 жыл бұрын
Thought it must be something like that! Is the control for it the wheel the guy on the platform is turning? Or is that something else?
@rockyfitzp3 жыл бұрын
@@defuse56 yes the beam is hinged at the combine fram and extends under the header. It then removes much of the weight which otherwise would have to be lifted by the rack and pinion (the big wheel) that the guy is turning to lift the header. The header is moved up and down to keep an even flow of heads and straw going into the combine. Usually as little as needed to just cut all the heads of wheat off the stalk. It may not look like the height of the heads vary much but they do.

I sure agree with trackhoe, nice to hear the machines. Just can't understand why some folks go to all the work of making a great video, then ruining it with some noise.
