I think it was 1967 and I was 14 when I heard "Different Drum" by The Stone Ponies on the radio. This VOICE -- who? -- was so different from other rock voices -- what I know now is it's Linda Ronstadt's control and the continuous breath support that give her such a smooth, powerful sound. But there's more -- from that base that she can go in all sorts of expressive directions. Here Linda rocks more than I've heard elsewhere: cutting the note, even growling, but never sounding harsh or out of tune. The combination of her gift, hard work, brilliant mind, guts ... a true phenomenon. Pop divas have specialized voices that can do amazing things in certain songs; Linda Ronstadt's is the voice that a huge variety of songs gravitated to because as long as she could sing -- who else was there!

When I hear Linda sing, I always think of my late dad. She was one of his favorite female musicians. Dad gave me his amazing taste in music. God bless him!

Live, the voice was really something else. Nobody, not Aretha, not Ann Wilson, not Whitney Houston, not Cristina Aguilera,not anybody, had a voice as big as she did live. That is made clearer on her mariachi performances. Probably the biggest voice in rock history and probably the most beautiful as well.

Jonathan Wallach well said amigo😀

Jonathan Wallach Indeed her voice was transforming - especially in concert. Nothing else quite as splendid.
@jeffzachritz88796 жыл бұрын
I would argue Ann Wilson (admittedly, Nancy's voice isn't on the same level) is as big, as clear, and as spectacular, but that takes nothing away from the fact that Linda's voice is just stellar.

Linda at her peak, and her absolute sexiest. Total babe. And one of the best voices in music history! Of course, the amazing Waddy Wachtel on lead guitar. Did you know Waddy is actually left-handed? Amazing guitarist!

James Rudd A torch, rock n roll singer, or as she also says "A belter"... The most perfect cry in her voice, a songwriter's dream vocalist... "Linda Ronstadt, the hardest working voice of my generation!"... 😍

Plays right, autographs left. Neat! So did George Harrison and Chet Atkins. It just makes sense for a left handed person to take advantage of the strength and dexterity of the dominant hand, and just let teh stupid hand to the easy parts.

OMG- Pure raw dynamite in a 5 foot package!! Linda crushed all the other voices in music and could cover any genre with ease. I saw her in concert in '83 and she wowed the crowd for 2 hours - perfect pitch, strong delivery and stunning beauty. The 77 "thumbs down" must be Bieber fans.

In the summer of 1977 (maybe) I went with about 8 friends to see the Rolling Stones down in Tucson. The huge crowd went absolutely crazy when Linda came out on stage to sing this song with the Stones, completley by surprise.
