Lindberg 1967 Oldsmobile 442 Build

This is a 1967 Olds 442 W30 built mostly box stock from the Lindberg kit. Great kit and highly recommended. I added spark plug wires, heater hoses and decals from Keith Marks on this build.

Nice Olds, that cream color paint is very period correct. I remember alot of cars with that color.

Real nice buddy, love those old Olds. Heck in 76 that’s what I took my drivers test in , it was a nice car too, belonged to my Aunt and Uncle. But I got my drivers license!

Beautiful build! Lindberg made some really great kits. The 1961 Impala's, '64 Dodge 330 and Plymouth belvedere. The Lindberg '66 chevelle is another really nice kit.

Another great build Raoul! The colour almost looks like butternut yellow or bone white on the video. The interior has that real vinyl appearance, great colour combination. Next to Pontiac metallic blue, my favourite engine paint was Oldsmobile, especially that gold/bronze metallic. A tip I did for applying the separate chomre trim is the cut thin strips of dull scotch tape, paint the body, then carefully remove the tape, knock down the tape edge with fine grade sanding or micro pad and apply the chrome. It worked really good.

Thanks for the tip. I may try that on the Revell 58 Impala. It has a similar build style with the chrome.

Yes this is a very nice kit! I did a video of mine in blue. You picked the perfect shade of white for this one. I agree with you about the wheels seeming a bit small. I never considered the headlight/taillight difference, at least they fixed that for 68. I thought this was one of the best kit engines out there. But i think where they really missed the boat was not including any options for that wonderful engine. I still want to build one or two more lol

Thanks for sharing that Ralph. Very nice build. I was not aware of the individual chrome trim pieces in that Lindberg kit. Seems like a mixed blessing, no foil work but heavy on the trim dimensions.

The first year of the 442 meant 4 speed tranny,4 barrel carb and 2 exhausts. The second year on was 400 Cubic inch Engine,4 barrel carb and 2 exhausts since the 400 engine and an automatic tranny option cane out in year 2(1965)..

This is a beautiful build! I like the 67 a lot better than the 66 especially the front end for the most part. I have this very same kit yet to be built. It will be black with a red interior and will have red line tires. After you prime and painted body, did you have some trouble sticking on the chrome side trim into the body? Because the thickness of the paint made it harder to stick the trim on into the depressions on the body where the chrome trim goes on. Other modelers suggested to sand the back of the chrome strips into a narrow "V" so in order to fit on the body much better. Hope this helps! By the way, looking at 1990s hot rod magazines, the motor was a kind of copper colored not gold if you're a stickler for detail? The other thing is when I brought this model when it first came out, it had a flat hood, a manufacturing mistake that Linberg made and soon later they made an announcement in SAE magazine that they would send out free correct louvered hoods to all modelers that bought the early kits with the problem. Giving the company your mail address for a free hood was all it took then. Hope you find this interesting stories about this model. Again you have done a beautiful job on this 442

Thank you! I'll have to check my other kit for the hood. I didn't know that. I did however preorder and buy 2 of the Revell 68 Mustang GT fastback kits. The first batch had 67 Shelby interiors! Revell did the same. You had to send in the UPC from the box. Then they sent the correct interior.

Raoul, have you seen anyone doing a '65 Olds Starfire in resin? I have one here that I grew up next door to. It has some incredible styling and mechanical features, including its 10.7:1 425 forged-crank engine at 370 rated horsies. I think it would be a killer subject. Let me know.

Nice build! That kit annoyed me on several fronts. The wheel/tire combo is too small and the grille texture is tunneled too far back. I had real ones so the goods were a big seal for me. The AMT '66 kits are far better.

Thanks! I agree that the wheels look more like 13s. I have a few of the 66 kits but fore some reason have not built one but the convertible looks awesome. The 66 W30 is a very rare car and the model kit has the moldings and I was unsure if I should remove them or not. I like the full dress loaded ones but could not find a nice example of one.

@@TheMuscleCarModeler the '66 4-4-2,was available in the various trim levels of Cutlass. I had a silver blue Supreme post coupe when I was in the Air Force, it had all the side trim and a painted white roof, buckets & console, pretty car and rare so of course I ruined it. I really appreciate your efforts here, you've inspired me to raise my own build quality. Good on ya!
