No worries Matt not boring! It was fun to see exchange of bodies and how they fit. One of your followers commented on the 34 Ford Lindbergh pick-up being close to the amt , I seem to recall they acquired the molds that were amt and produced it under the Lindbergh name, with some modifications such as the custom wheels. Then when round2 acquired Lindbergh molds they re-issued it as AMT and brought back some original parts. But the chrome reverse wheels included on the kit were not in the original issue. They had a finned dome shape wheel cover for the custom version. I built the original kit back in the 60s and still have the box. Caps are evident on cover shot. Great video.

Great comparison! I thought I remembered reading a comparison in Scale Auto Enthusiast magazine (in the 90's maybe? I can't remember, it may had been more recent) comparing the 3 1:25 kits (AMT, Lindberg, and Revell/Monogram's then brand new '40 Ford Coupe kits), I could've sworn they said the Lindberg was slightly undersized compared to the other 2, but it certainly doesn't look it here 🤔 I'd love to see you do a 3 kit comparison with that one you mentioned in a future video. My dad has several Lindberg 40 Ford kits where he always snags that exact kit with truck and trailer every time Ollie's has them and has offered one to me a few times, with all the cool 40 Ford build videos coming from some of my favorite KZbin channels recently (that means yours too 😉) with the GB going on I've bought the AMT 40 Sedan Delivery (at Hobby Lobby with 40% off no less 🤪), have a few "in my cart" while thinking about it on ebay, and have dug out a couple "survivors"/rebuilders that I'd bought off ebay a few years ago (I've always loved '40 Fords) 🤦♂️😆 Anyways I didn't mean to ramble on, great video, my friend, looking forward to seeing them as you build them 😊✌

Some of the Lindberg kits are very similar to AMT, for example the '34 Ford pickup, '40 Ford Coupe
@garagepunkfan2 жыл бұрын
The AMT 34 Ford tooling was actually left at AMT/MPC alums George Toteff's Tool & Die shop in the late 70's for repair and was never reclaimed, along with some IMC/Testors tools (including the L-700 Dodge, The Little Red Wagon, and the Mustang II Show Car). George Toteff later bought the Lindberg company and utilized the tooling in their early 1990's revival. The 40 ford originated as a Palmer tool, BTW. Palmer was well known for "cribbing" (reverse engineering on tracer mills) tooling from other manufacturers kits.
@bobby79872 жыл бұрын
@@garagepunkfan the lindberg 34 pickup is definitely the original AMT kit. I've heard the story about the 40 ford being a Palmer kit, but I can only find a 1/32 Palmer 40 ford. I've never seen a 1/25th Palmer 40 ford.

Oh and yes that Dodge truck is a challenging build not impossible just challenging. And the front axle needs to be raised as it looks like a customer truck if you build it out of the box.

I got a 40 ford from a garage sale many many years ago that was already built. it was missing the hood and the engine. a few years later I built a lindberg 40 ford and it was an exact match. so I'm guessing one was a retooling of the other. This was originally the AMT 40 Ford Coupe which briefly was licensed to Lindbergh for production- the kits are the same. Ditto the AMT/Lindbergh/AMT again 34 Ford. Any pickup. Any differences between the two kits are production kinks only. Lindbergh production quality was always sub-par compared with AMT. The 40 Ford Sedan Delivery was issued some years after the Coupe(1969 Sedan Delivery, 1960 for the Coupe), so AMT made some improvements in detail and fit quality over time..

@@modelcarvideos5829 Hi. Thank you for your thumbs 👍 on my comment, it was a little garbled regarding the 34 Ford pickup- but you obviously get my meaning. Actually the '40 and '34 Ford kits have been reissued, specifically, by Round 2. I'm not sure what the relationship is between Round 2 and AMT at this point- the 40 Sedan Delivery as part of the "Coca-Cola" series, and the 34 pickup as well as the 40 Coupe in their original 1960s box art. Anyway love the video!...

My first Lindberg was the 37 Cord. It was also my last. To anyone who has successfully built it. Congratulations. You're officially a better modeler than me. You'd think a multi piece body would mean better detail.... Better everything! Nope. It just means overly finicky, and under detailed. Its the type of kit your grandmother would buy you for Christmas, when you superficially asked for anything but the Lindberg 37 Cord. *sigh* I think I may have mentioned over on Luka Cee's channel, that the Lindberg Cord is the only kits that's ever beaten me. Beaten me so hard, that's its still sitting in its box half done, making fun of me, and calling me a pansy. Cool comparo. The AMT 40 Ford S/D was an ok kit for me. Even with its mold lines being cliff faces, that took days to sand, and fill. Sand, and fill. That being said. It did look cool in a nice purple/green/blue nail polish flip flop. Nearly went Katie Womprat on me. Nearly.... lol

The Cord might have been from old Pyro tooling from the early 60's like the '48 Lincoln Continental that Lindberg also sold. I knew that going into it, but wanted to see if I could 'conquer' one anyway. The engine is a really bad joke. I'm thinking about resin casting one from molds made from combining Ford V8's from more modern kits. But I might make a casting from a Monogram Continental if I can get one for a decent price. Regarding the multi-piece body, i think they were always for lower tooling and packaging costs, not for better detail. Late 50's Revell and 80's Italeri kits weren't too bad, but I almost tried to turn my mid 60's IMC 48 Ford into an airplane kit. To see if it could fly, anyway. Didn't care if it failed.

Scalemates is NOT a definative resource. It's a great tool to work with, sure. But the information is NOT always complete and added by the users. (I have a kit in my hands that is NOT listed on Scalemates for example). Also, the term new tool could also me some parts of the kit or the whole kit. To verify you work you might have to dig deeper. I've found that "flash" does NOT mean an old kit. I've seen new kits that have more flash than this here '40 Ford. I have a Tamiya kit that is reissued from the early 80s and it has almost NO flash. So think of flash as a form of quality control of the company. Very good video too!! An awesome resource.

This 40 kit was originally a Palmer kit from the early '70s that was never released. Palmer copied it from the AMT kit but if you had an AMT coupe to compare the two you can see the differences, most notable the roof, which is quite has quite a different silhouette compared to the AMT. Palmer also copied a couple other kits at the time, early '70s, from MPC, the '72/74 Challenger and the early '70s corvette. They were released under the "PSM" label but the '40 Ford was never released. It was never released until Lindberg acquired the molds in the '90s. So, yes, it's a very old tool. Don't believe everything you read on Scalemates.
