Glad you liked it. I build just about anything. Sometimes it's more cars, sometimes ships, etc. Whatever mood I'm in or if a new kit comes out and I'm really into it.

You did a great job on the build; I loved the fact you brush-painted it with craft paints -- something to which I switched when I lived in an apartment and didn't want to inconvenience the neighbors with enamel and paint-thinner smells. (Though the first nice day after the model was finished, it went outside for a clear-coat). My quibble with this kit -- which is amazingly detailed and cleanly molded for its vintage -- is that I'd be cutting out one, maybe two more windows on each side of the wheelhouse; as molded, that's not nearly enough visibility. And I'd swap out the provided life rings for bigger ones; those look like they belong on a smaller-scale model. But also -- a shoutout to model kits manufactured in my hometown!

I think the painting took the most time. I have the diesel tug from Lindberg. I got some good pointers from your video. Not a lot of parts though. Your instructions are more detailed than mine. I only have some drawings of the Tug. As a beginner I found your video extremely helpful! I'm not as good as you but in time I will learn. Thanks again!⚓

Great explanation but I did not understand a number of statements. I was able to buy the North Atlantic Trawler from Lindberg, but the glue does not work well, I have understood correctly that you clean the parts before gluing, may I ask what you are cleaning with and which glue do you use. Thank you for your comment and explanation. With regards from Rober

@@hpiguy, Thank you for your response. I have used Tamya extra thin but it did not stick. Also not with CA glue, maybe clean first? I live in the Netherlands and was happy to be able to buy a Lindberg model from America, only I did not know that building, due to the plastic used by Lindberg, would cause some problems. Maybe if I would know some glue brands I can start looking for them. Thanks for your response and regards from Rober

Thanks for sharing your build! I'm currently working on this model. I haven't done a model since my childhood. Do you have any tips for gluing the hull together and eliminating any seams? I have a decent sized seam where the hull connects at the rudder. I thought about using some binder clips to squeeze the two sides of the hull tightly together and then using some modeling cement. How does that sound? Also, should I consider filing down the seam that's open near the rudder to try and close it better? Sorry, I'm really new to this and I can't seem to find too much material covering basic techniques for beginner issues to contend with. Thanks so much!

Was there a version of this mold released with a motorized option? I picked up an older model that share a lot of similarities with this model off of ebay as a junkyard find. Nice build! I got the kit from my son on Father's Day....however, regarding the kit itself, the USCG Tug 'Spindle' 67509 never existed. It's a fictitious name & hull #. (Ex-Coastie, btw) On CG vessels under 100', the first two digits in the hull # designate the length. The CG tugs were all 65 ftrs. SO, with a little doctoring on the decals, mine will be, though still fictitious, 65709. At least that part will appear more authentic...(and maybe only an ex CG guy would care!) Further, amazing the similarities between your workbench and mine. Self-healing matt, pegboard, exact same mini file set...(Hrbr Frt?) and even the lasy-susan for spinning projects. (I made mine from a boat seat swivel. Real handy, 'specially for air-brushing & glass etching.) Again, nice build! I picked up a tip or two watching. (Your bench is much tidier and more 'camera-ready'. lol)

I originally thought this was the same kit as the Lindberg Harbor Tug/ Diesel Tug but it is not. There are similarities but also many differences, the scale being one. The Harbor/Diesel Tug is 1/87 (HO) scale. The Coast Guard Boat and the Fire Boat are essentially the same boat with added details to make it into the Fire Boat. Both of those are listed as 1/72 scale.

Lindberg makes some great kits. I thought this was the same as the others too, but nope, different which makes it fun to build each one.
@cjdavis26842 жыл бұрын
You did a nice job with this Tug. Only two goof's you did. one was the funnel is on Backwards. the whistle faces towards the back of the Pilot house. and the funnel should have the coast guard seal on port and starboard. The mistake the Lindberg company did was make that winch. No Tug ever had a winch like that. it's a Fishing trawler winch. the Tug it's self is based on an old California harbor tug design.
