It’s ironic how the Romanov family’s ascension was filled with brutality, including widespread violence, famine, and foreign occupation. And in the end, their rule was ended just as brutally. The Romanovs began and ended their reign in blood, with history repeating its own cruel cycle.

I always wondered why, if Paul could make it illegal for a woman to inherit, then why couldn’t Nicholas just change that law? Make it legal for a woman to inherit if her father had no sons. Was he afraid of the repercussions from his uncles and cousins if they were slipped down a few pegs from inheriting? He still had a younger brother who was alive at that point. Did it just never occur to him to change the law?

Sometimes it's family pressure. Sometimes it is recognition that to change a long held tradition would cause unrest in not only the royals but also the 'people'. 13:42 I think you have a bit of a unit conversion issue here. The 1824 Flood of St. Petersburg had peak floodwaters of 4.21 meters or 13.81 feet. 1300 feet would be about the height of One World Trade Center in Manhattan. One other interesting connection between Abel, Tsar Paul I, and Tsar Nicolas II, is that Tsar Paul had left a letter to his decedents to be opened 100 years after his death. The letter contained predictions from his conversations with Abel. Tsar Nicolas and Tsarina Alexandra were excited to open the letter when the day came, but reportedly left somber and unsettled. Allegedly the letter read, "The Holy Tsar, who is like Job the Long-suffering (Nicholas was born on May 6, the feast day of Job the Long-suffering, according to the Eastern/Russian Orthodox Church), he will have the mind of Christ, the patience & purity of a dove. A crown of thorns will replace his Tsar's crown. He shall be betrayed by his people, as was the Son of God. A great war will be fought. People will fly in the air like birds, and swim underwater like fish. They shall destroy each other with stinking sulfur. Treason shall grow and multiply. On the eve of victory, the Tsar's Throne will fall. Blood and tears will water the Earth. A peasant with a axe will take power, and the Plagues of Egypt will begin." After reading the letter Tsar Nicolas reportedly began to say that 1918 would be a fateful year for himself and the Romanov Dynasty.

They may not have known at first; their guards did everything possible to limit information in and out of the house, including painting over the windows and building high walls around the house. They were then restricted to 2-3 rooms on the top floor-in very hot weather, keeping in mind they were killed in July. However, a day or two before their murder, they were finally allowed to have a priest in to say Mass for them. At a certain point in the service, there is a prayer said for the dead. The entire family went to their knees for this, as if they were praying for themselves, already among the dead.

Actually Paul was most likely Peter III's son. Not only did he look like Peter, but he also inherited some of Peter's characteristics. It was said that it was Empress Elizabeth who finally blackmailed Peter and Catherine into producing an heir before she allowed Catherine to take all the lovers she wants. In fact, after Paul, Catherine had a short-lived daughter named Anna when she was accused by Peter of adultery as he claimed the child was not his. Still, Anna was the only other child who was legally Peter's child but likely she was the one who was not Peter's, and not Paul who obviously resembled Peter.

The kids didn’t deserve it, but the emperors definitely had it coming. They lived an opulent life style while the people barely had shoes to wear.

Help me understand this: 1. Why weren't both of Nicholas's older daughters married to other European Royals at their age? 2. When he abdicated, why didn't Nicholas and his family immediately leave Russia and go into exile?
@gregoryjones95462 ай бұрын
Yes, THAT PART!!!
@alexandracotton45142 ай бұрын
Because Nicolas was never teached political stuff or how to rule the country so he did whatever he imagined should be "the ruling" (doing absolutely nothing) and didn't let anyone to criticise it, because that is what being the tsar was in his head or something.

There were marriage prospects for them, particularly Olga, namely with the eventual Carol II of Romania, but that didn’t pan out, and it seems all the sisters found the match distasteful. One of their former tutors also is said to have heard from Olga that her parents wouldn’t force her to marry anyone. If I were to guess at Nicholas and Alexandra’s mindsets, as misguided as they were, they actually loved their children and wanted them to be happy with their spouses. It makes sense, considering the resistance they faced to their union (even if it may seem justified in hindsight). The possibility their daughters might be carriers of the hemophilia gene might also have made them hesistant. Look at what happened to Princess Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg when her husband Alfonso XIII found out his heir had the disease, which Lindsay covered in other videos. And then with World War I, that further put any typical expectations of marriage to foreign royals on hold.
@jmmin12132 ай бұрын
1. Nicholas & Alexandra loved their daughters a lot and they won't forced them into marriage that they don't want. In fact, Olga & Tatiana marriage prospect were considered but both girls were not interested in foreign marriage or separated from their family. WW1 further cut off the possible marriage talk. The girls actually had a lot of admirers and many princes wished for their hand in marriage but consent, age, circumstances just wasn't in the girls' favour. 2. Shortly after the tsar abdicate, all the girls contact measles, which means the family cannot move around freely. By the time they recovered, revolution sets in & the family was already on house arrest. The Provisional Government was partly to blame. They could have sent the family to Crimea where the other Romanovs gathered. When the Bolsheivik eventually gained power, the Romanov escape window had passed.

1. Olga and Tatiana had many proposals and marriages planned but they didn’t want to be married, to the point that when Carol II? Of Romania came to see his potential bride, the girls sunbathed to the point where they were burnt and peeling, which completely put Carol off of the match. 2. They would’ve probably been sent back to Russia as I’m 1917 Germany controlled most of the northern border with Russia. They would’ve wanted to wait until one of their relatives allowed them to have asylum in the country

Saint Petersburg was named after apostol Peter, not after Peter the Great😮😮😮 Poor 3yo Ivan was doomed to die,unfortunately, his cunning polish mother wanted russian throne so badly, marrying two imposters and being stubborn about it... politic games were cruel not only in Russia but in other countries too (it was the end of 16th century after all). Thank you for this I liked other parts very nicely composed and the music arrangement is perfect ❤

Common Misconception that The Romanov Dynasty, could do or say whatever they wanted - they had many nobel relatives and elites to answer to, as well as the wealthy church and a Russian form of Parliament, so it was limited what good they could do - by the wealth and greed of others in power, behind the scenes.

Technically one of the girls outlived Tsarevich Alexei. The Bolshevik murderers said one of the girls coughed up blood as they were removing the bodies from the Ipatiev house. Also, I like how you placed (Reportedly) next to Rasputin's name in his quote as it's very unlikely that he ever wrote such a letter to Nicholas II. 1925, the year that his letter was "discovered" is highly sus, b/c it's the year after Lenin died, but before Stalin was elected into power. This means that there was a brief period of freedom where people finally talked about the family, and it's no coincidence that it's the same year many of the infamous imposters emerged along with the supposed letter.

It sad how for the first two the curses came from grief stricken mothers who had to watch their sons died
@francesbernard244515 күн бұрын
No curse can remain on the heads of the innocent since year 1 A.D. Simple as that. So who all then during final judgement day will for real then be sent to an eternal cursedome instead after others had only been often sewing during their tears during their lifetime. Some sew confusing instead while being haughty and when trying so hard to triangulate people against one another. Often. Orten sometimes long after people have died.

Thanks for this video. Correction: Napoleon did not burn Moscow. It was probably Count Rostopchin who gave the order to burn the city as a weapon against the invading French army. Napoleon, for practical reasons alone, would have wanted an intact city for his army to use as a resource.
