I found this video about 10 minutes after I bought a ball online. On plus side I seem to have followed most of your advice anyway which is a bonus. Oh and you are in my top 10 things I've found on the interweb, cheers for the video :-)

I just wanted to say thank you for these tutorials. Yours have been by far the easiest and clearest to understand. I've gone from a clumsy wreck to being able to do at least 2 tricks... which has impressed the family no end haha. Thank you.

Speaking as an old guy starting this enjoyable practice, I've picked up a few balls: 100 mm acrylics, clear and colored and a 75 mm clear one. But the ball I most enjoy playing with is a 100 mm stainless steel. It's pretty light, so I don't mind practicing for extended periods. The acrylics do get to be tiresome, due to the weight. Also, the stainless really does look pretty good, and it's smooth enough for sliding kinds of moves, like squeeze-ups. One other thing worth mentioning: At some point, you WILL send your ball flying through the air unintentionally. An acrylic ball can smash windows, TV screens, etc., and dent floors. You have to think about this in terms of where you practice, as well as what kind of ball you use. My stainless ball is light enough not to do much damage. I think the Sil-X would be even better for anyone who practices indoors.

I just got a clear acrylic one the other day. As a beginner. I thought I'd try to do the harder balls first so that the easier ones would be that much easier. The set I started off with a four years ago is actually not made for contact juggling, but they're small chrome "Chinese Medicine Balls". They have a bell inside them and due to the size, they are harder to use for most people, but training on those and now using the acrylic, it's much easier than it would be otherwise.

Thank you for sharing! I just started contact juggling recently and I love it! I started with a 75 mm acrylic which I really really like. Someone told me to try 100 mm so I got the stage ball and waiting for an acrylic. I like the stage ball but it’s so light lol. It does help make practicing the left side a bit easier. And even a 75 mm becomes tiring after a bit because of the weight. Thank you for all that you share, and hope you are doing awesome!

Thanks Lindsay. I happen at my much older age, have a lot of metaphysical training...so I just happened to have some glass crystal balls. Until Fushigi, I had never seen contact juggling. But, after watching several how to explanation, wow...I learned they make acrylic balls.. clear ones. and they are slightly lighter.. Strange, no one even mentions that a beginner should be using acrylic instead of glass. You might want to include that little gem of wisdom in your next how to. Crazy as it sounds, I collected three 57mm acrylic track balls from old computer track ball mouse units. Right now, I am using them to strengthen my hands while waiting for some 60mm clear acrylic balls off E Bay. lol...sure the hands hurt with the practice...but need some new tricks to teach the grand kids... Much appreciated...

i am using a base ball at home, and an orange at lunch, all i can really do is a roll onto the back of my hand to the palm of my hand, and i really want a clear acrylic or a chrome, i am more of a fan of smaller cj balls. i love your videos! they are very helpful and you have a great sense of humor. i have been pen spinning for a while and i remember the time i dropped it on my dad's face; he got pissed off at me, and i want to get into contact juggling too.

I got into contact juggling when I was 7 years old, my father's friend named Rob game me a trackball from a broken mouse he had. I would sit for hours trying to do some weird tricks while keeping it in the same spot in space, now last year I found contact juggling and I'm excited to receive my first ball

I also use the 120 mm helium filled Jupiter sky ball or 100 super high bounce balls...They are safe to practice with and bounce back to your hand which can add,to the flow movements if added gracefully. ..Love your videos Lindsay ...I need to meet a girl like you..😘

I just got a 100mm ball, a plastic one to practice (and drop) & an acrylic one to use as I get better. I'm not sure if the ball is too big for my hands, but I find it very hard to sit safely on the back of my hand.. I feel like a small one might sit more easily on my knuckles, should I continue with 100mm or try a smaller one?.
@LindsayIstace10 жыл бұрын
Three courses of action you can take! #1: Keep practicing your backhand cradle until it works. I have pretty small girly hands and I can rock a 100mm but it did definitely take some practice. Most of us are not born with ball on the backs of our hands! #2: Get a smaller ball! Why the heck not? If it works, it works! #3: Do both and that way you're making an educated decision as to your favorite contact juggling tool.

Thanks for the reply, I ended up getting a 80mm ball which feels much better than 100mm

What do you think of Fushigis? honestly. What would they classify under?
@Tejasmed6 жыл бұрын
Linsay should answer that...but after studying Fushigis, I found that they deliberately put a metal sphere inside the clear acrylic balls, and a solid acrylic glowing ball in the glow in the dark balls. Their reasoning is that the effect is slightly better due to only leaving like a 1/4 in ring of clear acrylic around the outer surface of the ball. The solid inner ball keeps any distracting pass through images. Plus...they sorta mention that the ball is not overly dangerous concentrating sunlight that might catch something on fire. Note, to anyone interested..Fushigi balls are almost 75mm. Most acrylic balls available are 60mm 70mm 80mm and 100mm. I am 79 and done a lot of crazy stuff with rope tricks..but this takes physical training..yes, your hand muscles will hurt...but stick with it. This is not an overnight learning trick...Stick with it.

@LindsayIstace9 жыл бұрын
Sil-x aren't cheating but I don't think they would help you switch to acrylic faster either. Jugglegear.CA might still have weighed silicone balls. They're just like revised silicone ones but they have a bit extra weight. I prefer them.

Balls with more weight are going to be easier to do things like arm rolls where the ball rolls down one side of the arm and then back up the other side of the same arm .....lemme give you a hint ,ever seen a gyroscope? It's stability comes from its spin ....a spinning object is far far more stable than one that isn't...rifle bullets use lands and grooves that twist down the barrel to impart rotational spin on the bullet making it hold one orientation.......
@Faequeenaus12 жыл бұрын

Somebody told me that because of weight... if you learn with silicona balls, gets easier when you try with acrilic ones. Is that true?
@LindsayIstace10 жыл бұрын
I would definitely say that is a matte of opinion. I found the transition kind of scary at first but found things like body rolls to be easier because the added weight creates more controlled momentum.
