Buckingham saved FM from obscurity in the mid 70's. She wouldn't have even been in the band if Lindsay didn't make that ultimatum that he wouldn't join without her. Well, it’s hard to bring anything to the table if you’re not even asked to SIT at the table. Lindsey insisted Stevie be brought in or he wouldn’t join. She has talent and can write songs, but her voice, while unique, isn’t the level of say Linda R. or Bonnie Raitt. Buckingham is a great guitar player with a vision. Yes, they both helped make Fleetwood Mac a household name in the Seventies.

@@glennburch1081 The Stevie Nicks we know now was not the one who Lindsey brought with him. Nice voice and some good lyrics, but no musical knowledge or experience singing in big venues. She was a drag for those first few years, and Lindsey insisted she stay and they work with her. The band built her into what she became. It doesn't make her less of a performer. It does mean she owed Lindsey something better than a knife in the back.

Christine McVie left the band in 1999 after "The Dance". Bless Stevie buts she's talking rot about it not working without Chris. Fleetwood MAc went on without Christine, released Say You will album in 2003 and toured up to she rejoined the band in 2014. From last interviews it was Christine's wish that they would get it back together (before she died). I saw them all live in 2015. You don't Mention the Buckingham McVie project and album in 2017. That was MEANT to be a Fleetwood Mac Album but Stevie 'didn't have anything' to contribute/wasn't interested, so despite the fact that Mick and John played on it... it wasn't. Stevie's nose has been put out of joint (over the success of the Buckingam McVie project? Over the fact that Lindsey "Moved on" and had a wife and family.... over her own ego ? who knows) The straw that broke the camels back was APPARENTLY the aftermath of Musicares event in 2018. They were taking the mickey behind her back and she didn't like it. Funny, she tolerated this "banter" for 30 years... (1975-91 and 1997-2017) She actually left the band in the early nineties because "It wasn't the same without Lindsey." She's on video saying that - look at "Rock family Trees" Finally and most compelling of all. Lindsey Sued and it was "Settled out of court" That usually happens when they know they are going to lose. They were all very chummy and then ignored him when he was ill, that and the fact he's conciliatory and open to returning, peed his wife off. The only one he got a response from was Christine, funnily enough. So yeah Team Lindsey here, and yes I know all about his past behaviour having read Carole-Ann Harris' book. OR maybe it was all Irv Azoff's fault ?

@lucone2937 Ай бұрын
I agree. "Buckingham McVie" (2017) could have been easily the last Fleetwood Mac studio album if only Stevie Nicks had cared to contribute perhaps 3 of her songs and singing backing vocals on other songs. Fleetwood Mac (since 1975) had one of those rare bands with three singer-songwriters at the same time just like The Beatles had McCartney, Lennon and Harrison as singer-songwriters. It is far more common to have just one lead singer and one main songwriter in a band. A musician and producer like Lindsey Buckingham also made both McVie and Nicks songs better with his skills in studio. Besides I think Christine McVie is often underrated even if a large number of FM hits were written by her alone.

I often wonder if Christine left the band bc she tired of the Stevie Nicks drama. Plus, Stevie relied heavily on Christine as shelter during all of the turmoil. Comments always crack me up. You really have to watch their documentaries and read their lyrics, of FM songs and solo, to understand Lindsey and Stevie. They reunited and became romantically involved just prior to the Dance tour (for the song Twisted), as shown in The Rehearsals of the Dance. Everyone screams during Silver Springs, how she went after Lindsey during that song, not knowing they were TOGETHER during that time. ALL of the songs written on SYW, and Trouble in Shangri-la, were written about Lindsey, per Stevie. Thrown Down was written during the Dance tour as she stated every time there was a chance for them to get back together, something always prevented it. This was the case with Kristen accidentally becoming pregnant. Lindsey didn’t even marry until after their second child. Many clips on MTV, and a few morning outlets, like with Kathy Griffin, Stevie would let people know she was “still with Lindsey” especially during touring (the Lyrics for Everybody Finds Out). In 2018, Stevie sang a duet with Leanne Rimes called Borrowed. Stevie said after hearing that song, she HAD to do a duet of that song with Leanne. That she understood that song because “she had that person” and could relate. This is the real reason for firing Lindsey and you can’t change my mind on it. She was tired of being in a relationship that wasn’t going anywhere and put her foot down. She said “I didn’t want to be apart of that darkness anymore and he knows that”. Again, she explains what that darkness is in Everybody Finds Out. It’s ALWAYS been about Lindsey, not Mick, or Joe…she’s written ALBUMS about Lindsey and only a couple songs about Mick and Joe. And you can always tell in interviews whether or not she’s pissed at Lindsey, based on her responses. Her stories change and contradict, based on how things are going with Lindsey. But she says “I never lie in my songs”. I do believe they are communicating again, since his divorce. Where it leads, who knows. But I’d love to see them reunite permanently, and publicly, before time runs out for them.

What causes the conflict? Stevie, said it herself, her and Lindsey love and are attracted to one another, but different circumstances have kept them apart. So, when they tour for nearly a year together, those feelings and emotions come to a boiling point. They have to choose whether to give into temptation or not... for nearly a year at a time of touring! The consequences of said choice became even more heightened once he got married and had children. It's always been striking to me that while the band is called "Fleetwood Mac," its two most talented performers are Buckingham Nicks. FM wouldn't sound like FM without Stevie's vocals (especially now that Christine is gone) and the band's work without Lindsey's creative force has been less than inspiring. I think part of the reason that Lindsey and Stevie's work in the band has been so much better than the work they did in their solo careers (and I'm a fan of a lot of their respective solo work) has been that underlying emotional tension between them. It's a shame that, likely, they'll not work together in the future. If they could set their egos aside, they'd realize that they're better together than they are apart.

Part of what made the band so special to me was the fact that they were literally living out a soap opera & stayed with it. they worked through the issues and kept on rocking..they showed that even with all the fame in the world,theyre still human and a life of fame isn't as glamorous as it seems..The whole world knew about the drama and it drew people in like flies to a poop pile. I don't really take sides, but if I had to, well, I'll just say this-Fleetwood Mac just wouldn't be the same without Stevie,it would be nearly impossible to sound as unique as they always had-since she joined. but then again without Lindsey there would be no Stevie & no fleetwood mac without the both of them. What a mess...i guess that makes me a fan of nobody leaving the band 😢

Frankly, Buckingham seems to be the stable one. I’ve always admired his guitar work and songwriting, and believe that Rumors, FM’s only really big album, wouldn’t have been possible without him. Nicks seems to be the one creating drama, and knowing how women are, I’m sure she’s plenty resentful Buckingham moved on from her, got married and had 3 kids. It’s pretty clear she got him thrown out of the band. I’ve never liked Nick’s voice or music, so I’m biased. Also, Buckingham’s many appearances on “What’s up with that” in the late aughts and early 2010’s is legendary.

I went to Berklee with Stevie’s managers brother. ( Robby,f rom Santa Barbara) At the time, I thought she was gorgeous and talented. He filled me in on the facts. First, Stevie’s was an absolute stuck up. B--ch, a nightmare. Lindsey, a strange guy, Both are very talented. Stevie never stopped loving or wanting Lindsey. Lindsey is his own man and Stevie wants to control men. Lindsey isn’t controllable, wouldn’t put up with her crap and moved on. Stevie will never get over Lindsey and pitches fits consistently. Remember, he’s happily married and has kids. What does she have? Also, her love has turned twisted. It’s probably not love anymore. She knows she’ll never get him and the only way to effect him, is to be vindictive. That’s through his love of music. She wants to destroy his other love, music has always been a greater love than any person. So, what’s Fleetwood Mac worth without Stevie? Nothing. She’s the draw.. Stevie , now just a vindictive person, sees it as the ultimate nut chop and has him fired. That’s the whole deal…

It should have been Buckingham/McVies "duet" album they did together that was very good, and Nicks adding some songs (displacing a few of the weaker tracks on the album) could have ended up being a really great album for them IMO. Fleetwood Mac is/was a whole greater than the sum of its parts. If you go by Billboard stats Stevie has had the most solo success, but they've all made great music. I love Lindsey _and_ Christine's solo work. It's a shame the personal stuff was too much to sustain a professional relationship... but if it wasn't for that fire, a lot of very powerful songs would never have been written. I also _love_ Neil Finn's music, but IMO he just didn't work in the Fleetwood Mac lineup, sorry. Now that Christine has passed on, and with Lindsey's voice affected by a complication of heart surgery, the fans will have to be happy with their recorded work.

It's ironic how professional relationships always boil down to money. Money can influence your behavior in the worst ways. While I'm all too familiar with the past incidents involving Buckingham and Nicks' equally "dynamic" personalities. The mere fact that they chose to remain in the band, when each could have taken a leave of absence at any time, is perhaps more telling than anything. And with Christine McVie's tragic passing, I think FM is done. It's unfortunate that the band's phenomenal legacy may be overshadowed by all the internal drama.

Im on neither side. I think it would be better if they could have just taken a big break and came back to the music when their anger had subsided. Fleetwood Mac is one of those rare bands that happen to catch lightning in a bottle. Once you empty that bottle, you’ll never catch more lightning. The band is too good and too important to let anger and bad feelings get in the way of the music. I don’t think anything happened that couldn’t have been mended with time. It’s sad that people rarely perceive that until it’s too late. Stevie’s voice is iconic, but so is Lindsey’s guitar parts. They’re both so essential to what makes it all work.

I don’t believe a reunion is possible or that it would even be a good thing. Hopefully, they’ll work things out, find peace, maybe even agree to finally remaster and release their 1973 album. But at this point, with Christine gone and John unlikely to return to the stage, it would be a travesty for the Mac to hit the road.
