News Flash - Blue Peter have a new garden and Lindsey Russell came back to Blue Peter as well as some other BP legend presenters to help launch it!
Drum roll please… we have a very exciting announcement to make… Mwaksy and Richie have officially opened the brand new Blue Peter Garden, Discover Soil, at the Chelsea Flower Show in London! The iconic event is hosted for five days each year to show the latest and greatest garden designs - and this year Blue Peter are there too!
With the strong message ‘don’t treat soil like dirt!’, super garden designer Juliet Sargeant’s amazing creation invites us to discover the wonderful world of soil and all the creatures and organisms that live in it, how it supports life on earth and how soil can lock-in carbon and help the planet. The new Blue Peter Garden is the first re-design in nearly 50 years, that really is something to shout about!
Make sure to watch Blue Peter on CBBC and iPlayer this Friday 27th May to see the full reveal of the new Blue Peter garden.
When the Chelsea Flower Show fun comes to an end, the new Blue Peter Garden will be transported to the RHS Bridgewater in Salford where Blue Peter badge holders will be able to visit the new Blue Peter Garden for free. And our Blue Peter garden, veg patch and Gold badge walk at Salford Quays are still here to visit too!
It takes a lot of time, energy and hard work to create a spectacular new Blue Peter Garden and our presenters were more than happy to get stuck in! Richie, complete with his BP hard hat, helped Juliet in the early stages of getting the garden ready for the Chelsea Flower Show and Mwaksy learnt all about the importance of soil and mini-beasts!
The new Blue Peter Garden opened for a preview at the Chelsea Flower Show on May 23rd 2022... and it looks absolutely fantastic!
Some familiar faces...
Lots of celebrities from the world of TV, music, film, art and social media come to look around the gardens at The Chelsea Flower Show... even the Queen made an appearance!
To celebrate the new Blue Peter Garden, lots of past BP presenters gathered together for a mini reunion - including Valerie Singleton, Sarah Greene, Janet Ellis, Mark Curry, Diane-Louise Jordan, Anthea Turner, Tim Vincent and Katy Hill
Gardener Juliet is passionate about spreading the message of how important soil is - not only for our gardens, but for most of life on earth.
“Down-trodden and neglected, soil is the ‘forgotten climate solution’ beneath our feet. Healthy soils not only feed most of life on earth but also act as an essential carbon sink for damaging greenhouse gases.” - Juliet
Compost cycle on an earthy background with grass, including two carrots crossed with an arrow point down to carrot peel with an arrow below pointing to a compost bin with the recycling symbol and carrot peel on top then an arrow point up to a vegetable planter with the tops of carrots showing with an arrow point back to the carrots crossed.
If you have access to some green space at home, in you back garden, in your balcony, at school or in your community garden, you can help. Speak to a grown-up about starting a compost heap and turn your waste food into ‘soil food’ to improve the health of soil in your area. Composting is the natural process that breaks down rotting food and plants and turns it into nutrient rich super soil.
