We should have been giving all the money we spent on wind and solar to electric companies to build nuclear power plants and to be upgrading the power grids. This would have actually helped every American citizen.

@@C8Quest Agree. We are faced with many restrictions and bureaucracy from our own government, the lead horse and other horses are half way around the track while we seem to be hog tied at the starting gate. We stay stagnated figuring out who's who, gender equality, racism, fighting over so much crap, China is straight and simply out drawing us as a world dominant power. It's like everything else this country decides to do. They plan and build for yesterday, no where near what the future is presenting. If we don't crawl out from under the rock our elites have kept us under, then better figure on speaking another language, and sooner than one might anticipate. We are a, "Day late & a Dollar Short" on most areas of canvassing our technology. Whether it be electric cars, trucks, trains, planes or ships, one thing is for certain, we must embrace another source of energy. Stripping this "ONLY" planet we now embrace of all it's natural resources will eventually only make us face the inevitable, no more Earth. Should we ever figure out instead of fighting over BS we should all be working together to keep this planet from imploding. There are great minds out there who undoubtedly have many of the answers but are hamstrung by one thing or another.......so let's coin the phrase..."We're only as strong as our weakest link". Maybe at this time in our thinking, EV's are the immediate answer to at least maybe propel us into further opening the draw strings of this space continuum that could eventually get us some advancement. He said it, it's not going away. The question we all have is, how can we provide the necessary supply needed to support such an enormous undertaking. Here in lies that main issues; natural resources. This ravaging in the short term still could not supply enough materials to make it all come to fruition, even in 50 year, at least not without upsetting the applecart in another way that would or could spell disaster. Change is needed, this is clear, as to how, what, where, when the ship can clear port enough to find that destination is anyone's guess. Meanwhile, as the Chinese keep copying, reverse engineering and out performing us just at about most everything, we continue to keep playing tiddlelywinks with our brains because thinking isn't on our table anymore, that and all of the sideshows some group of idiots keeps thinking we need to do to make their lives more enjoyable.

I'm not sure what he is looking at, but 80% of all the EV's made in China are all sitting if fields rotting away. Yes the rest of the world jumped on the EV wagon before we did, but the rest of the world has slowed down the EV push. The EV sales in the UK have slowed down so much that dealers are having a hard time trying to meet the monthly required sales (government imposed quota), and now at the present rate of sale the UK will never meet the 2035 numbers that the UK government has imposed. Also after the EV fires in South Korea there has been a big push for new laws on parking and such. Also insurance companies are already dropping EV's from their list due to the cost of replacement and other issues. There are lots of problems with EV's, and they need to address before huge numbers of dollars are spent on something that is doomed to fail.

@@joshdauberman1267 EV pickups weigh more than ICE pickups, so what’s your point? If your point is that many people buy heavy pickups they really don’t need, then say so. Frankly, I’d agree with that. But that’s not an EV vs. hybrid vs. ICE issue. That’s a “size of vehicle” issue. BTW, we partly solved this problem in the mid-1970’s when we significantly downsized vehicles to address fuel shortages back then. Getting back to the EV debate, if we as a nation aren’t willing to build more nuclear power plants, widespread use of EV’s are a fallacy.
@joshdauberman12672 ай бұрын
@@OldRustySteele That was my main point - that many people love and currently use heavier vehicles in Jeeps, pick-ups, and Hummers - and they have just as much, if not more, of a toll on the road than EVs do. Finally, I totally agree with you, we need to rapidly increase our nuclear energy capabilities to prepare for the coming increased demand on the grid by EVs. New technology has made nuclear safe, effective, and creates many high-paying jobs that it's ludicrous to overlook.
@OldRustySteele2 ай бұрын
@@joshdauberman1267 Bingo! I agree. One problem I see with ALL vehicles is that they have morphed into overly heavy, overly technology dependent, costly “safety cocoons” because people don’t pay attention to traffic, drive too fast, and are impatient. (And I have an older Corvette, so I’m not a slow crawler out there, myself). I still have honest questions about EV batteries and their environmental footprint, but I must admit that I really don’t have any properly-researched thoughts about that. Electric is actually the exact opposite! We can use renewables such as wind, solar, and hydro power which take nothing from the Earth! Unfortunately, we are still using fossil fuels which do take from the Earth and destroy the Earth because the gasses get trapped in our atmosphere - changing our atmosphere. Nuclear will likely be the only short-term solution to fix our current problems.
