For everyone saying that I've lost who I am as an artist and you miss the old lindsey...just because I sang two songs on a Christmas album and worked really hard to learn some point ballet, doesn't mean I've lost my center. Aside from this and mr. grinch, all my other videos this year have been full instrumental, violin heavy songs and the videos were artistic metaphors with greater meaning... aka, the kind of content I am known for. I put a lot of time thought into making my art entertaining, artistic, and or meaningful. But Sometimes I enjoy trying new things. I strive to keep my content full of variety so I like to try new things. I also seek to uplift, and I really try to be a good role model. Just because I look pretty and dare I say, sexy in a video doesn't mean that I am a "wannabe" "Barbie" "pop star" that has lost her sense of value. I draw the lines that I think are appropriate for me and it is up to you to draw the lines that are appropriate for you. Don't judge me because my line is different than yours. It is never our place to judge others. The way we view others is actually more of a reflection of how we feel about ourselves.

I personally thought the video was great, it's nice to try new things and express and expand on your creative but not losing touch of who you are, I think the fans are just worried and concerned that you end up getting the fame to your head and become like how most mainstream "artists" are now a day and lose the uniqueness that is you, I think the fans are over thinking it but I can see where there coming from but that's how I see it, but I know Lindsey wouldn't change like that she's too awesome, she just want to mix things up and tryouts new things but still be her talented self that we all love.

For those saying that Lindsey has 'lost herself' simply because she has decided to try something new let me ask you these questions. How is your artistic/ music careers going? How is your youtube channel doing? You see it's easy to sit behind a screen and type away while your safe at home all snuggled up somewhere. Lindsey has struggled, sweated, cried, bled and even injured herself (Dancing with the Stars) to get to where she is now after being told she wouldn't get anywhere! So if she wants to spread her wings and see how high she can fly i will support her as much as i am able to and be the wind beneath those wings. This woman has inspired and bought joy and hope to so many people (myself included) that i hope she continues to grow and develop her talents in all ways she can! To Lindsey: I love your videos. I enjoy watching you dance and play the violin and i've really enjoyed hearing your voice fully. I always listen to your music when i need a pick me up. A good response to anybody talking against Lindsey's pointe skills is that nobody starts out perfect when they try something new. Telling her to "put those shoes away" or to "not try if you don't have the proper technique" is ridiculous. The only way that a person can learn proper technique, and become skilled in an art or in anything is to practice and work hard for what they are trying to accomplish. Lindsey has way more skill and ability in ballet than someone without any training, and showing what she has accomplished so far is something we should be excited for not so criticizing of. We wouldn't be so critical of any other person who is performing a display of what they have learned, it's better to congratulate her on what she has accomplished and encourage her to keep at it than to tell her to give up. And on a similar note: I am glad to see that Lindsey is trying out singing as well. I think that the fact that she is still trying new things and expanding what she can do as an artist is awesome and inspiring as a long-time fan of hers. Edit: also you should watch the behind the scenes if you haven’t. She’s so cute and excited about her accomplishments in that video 😭😭

Trevor Rhyans Most dancers train for 3 years 5 hours a week before gaining enough strength and technique to be put en pointe. Pointe shoes are not really the type of thing you can throw yourself into. In order to avoid injury you need to have a lot of ballet technique that Lindsey lacks. She is much better than most and the most complicated thing she did was an échappé so I’m not particularly mad or worried. But your logic is flawed.
@johnpjones1826 жыл бұрын
But really all that matters is that she looks _fantastic_ on pointe!!
@WadeShoe6 жыл бұрын
@@blah7983 I appreciate that you appear to know what you're talking about when it comes to pointe and ballet, but I fail to see where you addressed how my logic was flawed? My main point was to say that if she is in her (...let say for the sake of this discussion) first year of training on pointe, that we should support her journey through learning the proper technique. Chances are that at her level of professionalism that she has a legitimate teacher advising her on how to learn pointe and ballet properly. Just as we would support a child performing at their ballet recital whilst in the earlier part of their education, we should also support Lindsey in this performance which is taking place in the earlier part of her education.
@autumnrashleigh83926 жыл бұрын
Trevor Rhyans I think what most people were saying was that they were worried that Lindsey would injure herself due to lack of technique. I know people that have injured themselves on pointe and it’s had permanently damaged their ankles. Pointe takes years of work, and even when you are finally able to get up on pointe you stay at the barre for a couple years more. It’s clear to see that Lindsey does not have the proper technique or foot arch or ankle strength, and that could lead to permanent lasting injury which I believe is what a lot of viewers are worried about.
@pepsicola27966 жыл бұрын
Trevor Rhyans I’m not sure you’re understanding the actual dancers here. It’s not that she needs more practice, she needs to strengthen herself because it’s UNSAFE.

*Lindsey Stirling's creativity from a music theory point of view.* I just did a little comparison of 4 versions of Santa Baby, including the original version by Eartha Kitt, covers by Kellie Pickler and Gwen Stefani, and Lindsey's version here. I wrote down the chord progressions used in each and made note of the style and then compared them. What I learned is that the same out-of-the-box thinking we've come to expect from Lindsey's music is very much on display. To begin with, take a look at the two chord progressions featured in the A and B sections of the original song by Eartha Kitt: Progression 1: Db, Db/F, Eb, Ab Progression 2: F, Bb, Eb, Ab In music theory, we assign roman numerals to chords based on their relationship to "tonic." Think of tonic as the root note of the song - the note that everything wants to come back to. If you sing Happy Birthday and stop just before singing the last note, you'll notice how it just doesn't feel finished. That's because that last note is the tonic pitch of Happy Birthday, and it's the most important note of the song. Roman numerals refer to the scale steps of a song, and tonic is always roman numeral I. Most popular songs begin and especially end on a I chord, and they frequently revisit it during the middle of the song to give us a strong sense of where tonic is. Here are the Roman numerals for Eartha Kitt's original version: Progression 1: I I6 II (or ii) V Progression 2: III VI II V (leads back to Progression #1) Uppercase Roman numerals mean a major chord, and lowercase mean minor. The third chord in Eartha's first progression could either be a major or minor II chord, because it leaves out the note that would that would determine this. As far as chord progressions go, these are pretty standard in popular music. The first progression is very much like what we'll commonly hear in popular music on the radio. The second is a little more creative and makes use of what we call secondary dominants to temporarily make us feel like tonic is shifting to different notes and creates a stronger musical pull. We would usually even write the Roman numerals to reflect this, but for simplicity I skipped that. Anyway, it's a fine little song that doesn't shift too far from what we usually hear. When we analyze Gwen Stefani's version, we see that it is extremely similar: Progression 1: I vi II V Progression 2: II VI II V As we can see, the only chord that changed was in the first Progression where the I6 was replaced with a vi. This is an _extremely_ common choice in popular music. It doesn't change the sound much from the original, because a I chord and a vi chord share 2 of 3 notes. Stylistically, Gwen's version also remains very similar to the original. Kellie Pickler's version: Progression 1: I I6 II V Progression 2: III VI II V Kellie's progression matches the original. There are some extra nuances in the accompaniment, but overall the feel and chords stick close to home. And now Lindsey Stirling's version: Progression 1: IV ii vi V Progression 2: ii vi ii III We can quickly see that there is a lot more that's changed here. The only chord that lines up directly is in the first progression with the last V chord. But even more interestingly is what is clearly missing. The I chord - the tonic chord - is nowhere to be seen. And in fact, we never really hear it played throughout the entire song. If it was not for the melody sung and played by Lindsey, we might even be fooled into thinking this song was in a minor key. This is interesting, because we're never made to feel like the song isn't resolving properly! It sounds quite normal on the surface, but it's definitely a very different take from the original. It's not something we hear in most popular music we listen to on the radio. Stylistically, Lindsey has also brought this into a much more electronic place than any of the other 3 versions. In fact, when I compare the actual chords used here and the stylistic elements, I find more similarities between this and Crystallize than I do with the other arrangements of Santa Baby.

communityband1 Excellent analysis! You should make it into a KZbin video!
@communityband16 жыл бұрын
@@lutheranninja1819 Thanks! I should think about that, because there are some cool things to show. In general I've been really impressed with how much effort went into differentiating these Christmas classics on Lindsey's album from their originals. It wasn't an easy task to retain the essence of the originals while changing them so drastically, and Lindsey and her entire team deserve a ton of credit. And it's not all just different chord progressions or styles. For example, her cover of "Mary, Did You Know" changes up a ton of things and even mixes in a famous classical melody. One interesting little thing I noticed when looking at some of her past covers: her cover of Boulevard of Broken Dreams is actually one where she _did not_ stray from the original chord progression. But in a way, this was very fitting, because that song already had a bit of Lindsey in it. The main chord progression is none other than the one she used for Crystallize!

If Mozart, a far better composer than Lindsey will ever be, played a violin behind a bunch of trash bins being hit with a bat, does it matter if he was the one playing the instrument? No. So, if you stick some garbage pop music, with an auto-tuned voice in a song, does it matter if it's composed decently? No. There goes your argument out the window, and I love it how you're still sucking up after seeing you several months ago... Do you have a life? Well, based on your long essay, probably not... Also, people are complaining about this being suggestive, which, even if she says otherwise, is nothing close to "appropriate" or for a "role model" to display to kids. It's some low-end "entertainment" for views, and it's mixed with suggestive dancing and skimpier clothing than the Mormon community likely is fond of, but let's it pass, because Lindsey's a celebrity... If so many people find a problem with this, it's not some single-minded view from a random troll. It's the better half of her fandom correcting her from getting even worse into this crummy form of suggestive filth.

Everything is fine except for the fact that she is dancing on pointe. She’s nowhere close to being on her box with her right foot, which can be quite dangerous and lead to injury. She could’ve done it in regular flat shoes instead, which would be a much safer option.

Hey Lindsey. Do not listen to people who are hating on your talent. First of all, what you do with your amazing talent is your world. Your joy. We are people on the outside looking into that world of yours. You have allowed us the privilege to get glimpses. Again, of YOUR world. Nobody has any right to judge. If they dont like what they see, they can move on to the next window. Please do not let others voices cloud how you see yourself or feel about yourself. I have a 5 year old daughter. Since she was 6 months old I played your music videos for her and she has loved you ever since. Because of you, she was inspired to get into ballet and she is a fantastic dancer. You can sing, you can dance, and you can play the violin with perfection... I dont know who made their judgments against you, but I say keep doing what you're doing. I think its awesome that you're expanding your horizons as an artist and I genuinely hope you will continue singing... I wish I had the talent you had... You can still be a fan and not love everything she releases, I absolutely respect her as a person as she is amazing to fight back and succeed after all the cruel life events and her mental health issues, I've loved the vast majority of the stuff on what I would call her proper albums meaning the self-titled one, Shatter Me and Brave Enough, I really enjoyed the documentary Brave Enough documentary even though it was a very traumatic and difficult watch in parts, these Christmas cover versions do very little for me though, this one especially as it's a song I never liked anyway and have heard a millions times before through my past work working in a supermarket, I look forward though to the day she releases her next original album as I hope it'll be as good if not better than the other 3 albums I mentioned. To be fair there are no musical artists who I like every single song they have ever released, it doesn't stop me having artists who I think are absolutely amazing though, Lindsey Sterling is definitely one of those artists.

Sa m Sa m Artists have zero obligation to listen to their fans though. Like, essentially they should create whatever they want to create; either people like it or they don’t. She shouldn’t be constrained to the image of ‘different/unique violin dance/edm music just because that’s what her ‘fans’ want. Because that would be pandering. It’s fine if you don’t personally like it, or it isn’t your thing. But Lindsey shouldn’t then have to change what she wants to do just to make music that you want. You’re just being salty, at this point.

@@LilFrg Idk, from the comments it sounds more like people want her to regress, to go back to the old and keep doing that very same thing over and over again. I send my comment here but i have watched the previous and new works. I love them all ! I love your violin, your dancing, your singing, the saoul and the colours you achieve to put in everything ! Thank you for sharing. And for being you. Thank you.

Lindsey you don’t need to defend yourself on here. You are an amazing artist with a violin or your voice. Your not losing your center, just blessing us with more of your talent.

Lindsey changing things up a bit, by gracing us with incredible vocals in addition to stellar violin playing, doesn't mean she's changed for the worse; quite the contrary, she's given her audience even more to look forward to. Edit: I'm REALLY late to the "party."

I know she probably did ballet when she was younger, but goodness my ankles hurt watching her en pointe. Dangerous! No no no
@catlane74266 жыл бұрын
I can't believe I had to scroll this far to find a comment about this. She should NOT be en pointe.

Loved the style of the video, but got a bit nervous for her as well. Especially her right foot!

tappyhoops I don’t know anything about that pose. Could you explain what she’s doing wrong?
@baileythompson87746 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much it scared me so much when she's on pointe
@feliciawang22526 жыл бұрын
Jon & Alycia she’s not completely over her box which means her foot is not fully en pointe, her foot is not strong enough to be en pointe, or her shoe is not good, so it is very dangerous

In this gorgeous video Lindsey is playing a character and having fun while doing it. Unrelated: I want pink hair.

I agree with this whole comment. Even the pink hair thing.

I just saw part of her Snow Waltz tour in Topeka. And I was amazed how beautiful her singing was. I didn't know she could sing. It was a really nice surprise. She was so awesome! Every song I have heard made by her I like.

Looking through the comments and I see people saying that they're disappointed in the fans who are giving criticism. Everybody has different opinions. Not every fan is going to like every song. And sometimes artists have not-as-great songs and that's completely okay. Artists don't always have to do everything perfectly. Some songs are going to get more criticism than others. I'm not suddenly hating Lindsey because I'm not a fan of this song. Being a fan of the artist and being a fan of a song are two entirely different things.

But some critics are rude. And this is not costructive.

Not liking it is one thing, and that’s totally okay! It’s the people who want Lindsey to only do what they want and complain because they don’t like it and want to compare it to other art like that’s a bad thing is the problem
@LaLaLa1876 жыл бұрын
@@rana-antoinettegagnon4845 Yeah, I agree with you there. Artists should be able to try out different things. People grow and change. Fans shouldn't try to limit others.

To anyone who thinks Lindsey lost herself, you are wrong. She is an extremely talented dancer, singer, and violinist, and who knows what else. If you don't like how she is then it's your problem. What she does is really difficult. I'd like to see you sing, do pointe ballet and dance and play the Violin. Please like so Lindsey and other people can see.
