The dance of the South, the shag, came about when African Americans who had moved up north for better jobs came back home and brought the music out of the Harlem club places such as that. They also bought the time step of the early swing or they also called it jitterbug and then. We moved it waist down, kept the time step opposite foot male and female. And many of the moves in there such as the camel walk or the boogie walk which used to be known as a shorty George and came straight out of Harlem are still used today. The music is infectious jump blues for the most part but we also dance to mellow down smooth rhythm and blues and I'm using voice text so pardon any grammar errors. You can search good rocking people shag on KZbin and go to the History section and hear the old timers till exactly how they learned it from African-Americans at pavilions and Warehouse dances and places

I think that's because Todd dances Carolina Shag and he mixes it with Lindy Hop. (I might be wrong though, but that's what I see when I see him dancing hehe)
