Growing up as a girl, dance classes I’ve had were all a source of frustration and stress because I’m clumsy and graceless. Yet I can really appreciate how Lloyd puts effort into not overwhelm a beginner. You’re a really good teacher.

Recommendation: when teaching a pattern, always, always demonstrate the pattern with a partner first. Then and only then begin teaching the individual footwork and hand and body moves. It is helpful to us students to be able to begin with the end in mind.

I'd like to think this is the opposite of what Lloyd often discusses, which tends to be history with a relatively heavy focus on warfare. However, it's not. Rather, this is the different side of the same coin. A perfect balance. Today, he doesn't discuss conflict or war. He educates us on love. War and love. Almost zen, don't you think?

Well done, sir! The Lindy Turn/ Basic/ Swing Out took me a couple of years to feel comfortable with, another couple of years to fine tune, and the last 15 or so years to share the joy that is dancing to beautiful, happy music. Keep on swinging! As Frankie said, "A one, a two..."

Huh, think you might have fixed a little timing issue I had as I was taught to start pulling in on one, which can still work, but it always lead to a sort of learning curve every time we change partners as we have to feel each other out. Thinking about it, it likely made it easy to rush into the turn too early and lose momentum before the triple steps. Then again, a lot of the people in the club I learned it in also dance at events where they Lindy at crazy fast tempos that make it appear like they're slinging each other, lol
