@@jHounder i owned a katana 50 and the spider v and i sold the katana 50. Not enough tonal variety. I played with it extensively including using the pc to mess with it. The spider v is way more flexible and sounds great. For arguments sake let's say the katana sounds better at what it does, which is basically a half dozen sounds from clean to high gain. Well the spider v sounds 90% as good with 10x the usable variety, and that's me playing devils advocate for the katana. The katana high gain sounds kinda sucked to me, and even with the extra "secret amps" and all the different stomp box drive options, they still all sound almost exactly the same, they just have the same distortion character. Crunch Lead and brown sound almost the same with the gain just tweaked a bit. Cleans were fantastic but only one sound that was a little too jc120esque for me. Spider v has multiple amazing clean tones that all sound and feel completely different, and various medium to high gain sounds that sound and react completely differently too, and built in stomp boxes that actually sound different.

@@jHounder it has a better speaker and bigger cab and more powerful amp. The preamp feeding it is the same so the gain character is the same. It's hard to describe but the high gain is not smooth and creamy and saturated, it's too metallic or something. Too much like the cube amp distortion, solid state sounding or something, or like an amplified boss pedal. Hard to describe since its been a while but the spider is better. Stick the spider on one model and you have a katana. No thanks.

@@Artcore103interesting! What about katana 50 and or Spider V 60 using an acoustic instrument? I’m thinking electric Violin here, NS Design, ppl with violins tend to like the Katana for its clean, I’m wondering how the Spider V 60 compares?? I can’t find info on violinists using spiders, but I see that many complain that the Katana 50 isn’t powerful enough.. thanks 🙏
@Artcore103

@@meals24u the 60w spider isn't going to help if power is an issue. Tone wise I can only speak to electric and electric-acoustic guitars, where I prefer the spiders sounds, but keep in mind the katana has a bigger 12" vs 10" speaker, and possibly the better power amp. If katanas are popular with violinists there must be a reason, and you can get a more powerful one. The spider also comes in more powerful varieties and with 1 or more bigger speakers.

I just got this amp today and I've played with it. To me it sounds great and while it can be a pain in the ass to go through each preset and each option to find the one you like, and there are only 4 custom tones you can have at a time unless I missed something it still is really good if you dont want to buy a thousand dollar amp. Its loud as fuck when it wants to be. I want to point out this is my 1st actual amp besides a 50 dollar one so I may just not know what good sounds like so take that into account but to me it sounds fantastic for what I want to use it for

If you wanted to, you could go and get the Line 6 FBV Express MKII for $100(USD) and I think you can save up to 4 of your favorite presets if you want to quickly switch to one of them and it can be used for the looper feature on the amp as well so you can easily make a loop if you are playing a live gig.

Very nice demo. And i agree with you about using the Spider V as an affordable sort of FRFR speaker for the Helix. I own the 240HC with 4x12 cab and running the Helix through the AUX sounds amazing and in full stereo. The G10 wireless system works really well too and makes me never want to go back to using guitar cables anymore. I am sick of tripping over cables or running over them with my desk chair. The G10 wireless system is great for live or for the home studio. Also the USB audio interface is great for recording directly to your DAW either on desktop or iOS device. I also own the FBV3 foot controller and turns this into a beast of a set up at a fairly low price point. I have to admit that i pretty much hate most of the factory presets, it does make the amp often sound like cheap junk imo, but with a bit of deep diving and tweaking you can get some serious sick tones out of this baby. And editing and organizing your presets with the app is a breeze. The new firmware update has some useful added features to improve the output options for recording as well. In my opinion the haters of the Spider only bitch about the amps because they never took the time to properly try one and probably base their hate on the crappy factory presets, or only borrow and echo the 'wisdom' or opinion of their peers because it seems to give you some credibility if you hate on line 6 or Viper products... lame! I have access to full blown tube amps with good cabs and i still find myself going back to my Viper 240HC because of its ease or use and tonal versatility. It might not be the best gig amp, but i think for practicing, rehearsal or home recording it earned a place of its own and it should be respected for what it is... a solid, affordable, ultra versatile and inspiring guitar amp.

Stephen Lillington hes only micing the 10" speaker and not the tweeter which is why it sounds too dark. These should be used with 2 mics or the usb out, or xlr on the 120/240. Ppl complaining about the tone in this video probably don't realize this. Its a bad demo due to this oversight, there's better videos to hear the tone.

PMTVUK didn't the Line 6 Amplifi amps have all sort of connectivity and stability issues with bluetooth? I read a lot about that during my research since i was interested in Amplifi. But i decided to go for the Spider V instead. Maybe that is why Line 6 ditched th bluetooth and went back to usb. I personall don't mind that since that way it charges the device at the same time too and it might be more reliable. I think it might be why the Amplifi amps got discontinued and are everywhere on clearance... from what i read thr bluetooth in the latest firmware completely rendered the Amplifi amps unstable and useless.

this or Marshall code?
@Artcore103
@Artcore103 5 жыл бұрын
Never tried the code but based on reviews and demos id say spider v. I bought (used) a blackstar id core 30, a vox vt40 (2nd to latest gen), and a katana 50, and the spider v60 and spent a couple weeks with each of them. Sold them all but the spider. It has its weaknesses and if i had the money I'd make other choices, but it can sound absolutely amazing and imo was the best overall of those 4 amps. Never tried code or mustang. I'd recommend at least the v120 so you get a 12" speaker and bigger cab, it sounds significantly better especially in the low end than the 10" v60. If anyone's reading this now check andertons for a crazy deal on spider v's, or else go used. Using the stereo output to a PA or monitors or a nice home hifi setup sounds inferio incredible too, potentially much better than the included speaker. If anyone is interested in a v60 email me as im looking to try a helix stomp or blackstar ht5r mk2 or something. Theocking at gmail dot com.

Very difficult decision based on your attitude if like me you are just a bedroom hobbyist who wants to twiddle controls but only to a point. Every web review and to an extent my own ears suggest that the Katana 50 does the crunch/brown distortion effects with less fizz. However, what I don't like about the Katana is no amp screen for quick reference. You have to hook up your lap top to look at the undoubtedly impressive tone studio. And bizarrely unlike with the Katana Air there isn't any official boss mobile app on which you can play with the myriad of settings. I'm aware of katana librarian but that's not an official app. If you have your own man cave with room to have your lap top permanently out then fine but even then you may just spend too much time looking at that screen than actually playing. Additionally, the loading of the software and any updates seems to be fiddly. For straight out of the box usability the Line 6 seems to be the way forward with just a little compromise on the distortion tones. If anyone out there has either please let know your opinions. And what does it sound like through headphones?

I see that Line6 still adds those stupid fx that nobody still does not use... 8:13, they always rave about doing something completely new, in fact they just mean it got cheaper & more plasticized...3 years from now they'll say the same about this pos.

You have to make presets with this amp or find a good one. Just because he uses one bad preset does not make the whole amp bad.

What an abortion of an amp. The only tone that sounded halfway decent was the Soldano raw tone and it wasn't even very good. Once he started playing effects, the thing sounded like a tin can.

I kinda agree, they are not the greatest amp or the best sounding amps but for the price they are amazing amps

Jordan Powers maybe, but you could probably find a good used tube amp for only a little more like a Peavey Classic 30, Fender Blues Jr, Marshall Class 5, etc. If you look hard enough you could find a Peavey Windsor 100 watt tube head for $200-250 range.
