Nice overview. I bought one as a one stop (stomp) practice tool. It is really versatile and makes it easy to dial in a huge range of sounds. I now have it on a mini board paired with a valeton vlp200 looper and an ampero switch to allow me to toggle drive and effects on/off. It’s all powered by a usb powerbank. A perfect portable practice rig.

How do you power it with a power bank? Is it one of the large power stations with DC out?

Lots of videos for this unit sound very different based on the interfaces. The best I've heard combine the amp sound with some light overdrive and then it really sings. Mine is on order. As a guitar/keyboard/ sax/singer I’m always looking to simplify my setups. Id love to velcro this to my keyboard and have 3-5 good presets for the show.

Love it, but needs an editor badly.

It would make it easier for some of the hidden features. I like to edit things like this on a computer. I only ever set my helix up via HX Edit rather than on the unit itself

Well luckily things change and line6 likes to provide quality of life features to their products without needing community backlash 😂 Line6 even got smart enough to make a phone app that works exactly the same as PC and is fantastic on the fly.

I can never get past the plastic hate. Are people chimpanzees jumping up and down on their pedal cases? I have some danelectro pedals made out of the heaviest friggin metal ever...and the surface mount jacks failed. I have other metal pedals whose swlitches failed. I have about 6 plactic housed pedals, and never cracked a single one. Sheesh. You arent supposed to actuallys "stomp" on the pedal, you know.

I have no idea why people are raving about the Pod Express? As shown here it sounds cold, brittle and fizzy with no real pleasing 'body' to any sound. Yes, I have one at the moment and I can't tell you how disappointed I am with it after listening to all the KZbin hype about them?

I don't think it sounds all that good by judging from the YT vids. So even if people are hyping it, i'm not convinced. And also, i don't think the knob approach is easy to work with compared to my Hotone Ampero, the touch screen on that one is very easy and intuitive to work with, much easier than the knobs, cause with the knobs you have to remember what buttons to press to be able to adjust settings, and on the screen of my Hotone i can see what i'm adjusting, no need to remember anything.

@@MrAntisound I have decided I will give it one more comprehensive chance, if still unpleasing it goes back. One bizarre thing I have found is, some amps have so much treble I almost have it dialled to '0' ???
@JosePineda-jn8jk15 күн бұрын
@@MrAntisoundwell the main point of this pedal is less complexity. Yes touch screen multi-effects pedals are great but, a lot of people (especially beginners) get option paralysis and can’t handle the menus and screen diving to get a tone. This is literally turn a knob for the amp, adjust it a little, and add in effects as simply as possible. Now if you’re also trying to say the ampero sounds way better or ahead of the hx line of stuff I’m just gonna call bs 😂 that’s user error if you can’t at least get them to comparable tones.
@neilkorsgaard6 күн бұрын
I’ve been really pleased with mine. I find it easy to get great and different tones. I think it is crucial to understand how to set the input trim and gain. I really get lost in the tones I’m getting.

THUMBS DOWN. Mechanical encoders are massive failure points.
@JosePineda-jn8jk15 күн бұрын
Are they really *that* bad? I’ve had my hx stomp since it launched in 2018 (7 years old in a couple weeks) and I’ve never encountered an issue with the encoder knobs they have on them. At this point if a knob did break, id be upset sure but, I wouldn’t be surprised if a piece of gear more that 5 years old needed to be serviced in some way. I’ve had tube amps need more work done in that span of time.

@@JosePineda-jn8jk Usually for cost purposes mechanical rotary encoders are used. They have sliding contacts that may be gold plated initially, but the plating is thin and wears through in short order. I've got several Korg devices as well as a Zoom stomp box where multiple encoders are behaving badly due to oxidation on the contacts-- what happens is you turn the knob and the parameter tends to only go one way regardless of what direction you turn, so at best you have to turn really slowly in order to make an adjustment and can be a real pain. I've also heard that Elektron gear has the problem as well-- it's pretty common for encoder based devices, I've seen go into failure mode as soon as 6 months after purchasing new gear. Optical encoders exist but they need to be powered so they're not drop-in replacements and cost more, plus they're harder to find and it may be that many engineers aren't aware of the problem or choose to ignore it. The driver software for them might be able to better compensate for when this problem occurs but it's pretty clearly a problem as far as I am concerned, I've been bitten by it too often that I'm not interested in taking the risk to end up with something that's next to useless after a year or so. Devices that use pots work for multiple decades and I have been collecting gear for at least a good 40 years, and it's rare a pot needs replacement.
