love the demo, great skills, the only problem is I hear that the sound is kinda muffled for the most part.
@jckovach Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I know what you mean about the sound. The Variax gets me in the ballpark, but nothing compares with hearing the actual instruments in a room (preferably with a new set of strings on them). It's like pedals that emulate rotating speakers: as close as they get (and there are some really good ones), nothing beats how the real thing moves air.
@benmclaughlin64902 жыл бұрын
thanks for the review. Have you ever tried running the variax out into a drive/boost pedal? Id be interested to know if its possible. Ideally id like to add a bit of drive and boost and go straight into a PA but not sure of the results?
@jckovach2 жыл бұрын
I have. In the video, I used the Variax's direct box xlr-out to record the output straight into the camera's xlr-in, but I run the quarter-inch out from the direct box into my pedalboard all the time. Boost, reverb, delay, modulation...works fine.

@@jckovach hi John, can o ask one other question please. I've read a lot about connecting the 700 to workbench bricking the guitar, so obviously I'm a bit nervous about this. I don't have other L6 products so I'd be connecting direct to my iMac. Is there a sure fire process or something I need to avoid to make sure I don't zero the guitar from the get go? I can't quite work out what it is that ppl are doing to brick their guitars....but I'd like to avoid 😁

@@benmclaughlin6490 Hey Ben, sorry I can't help with that. I've not taken the plunge into the workbench software. I got this as I had an immediate need for the sitar and nylon string sounds and they're decent enough out of the box for playing live. I'd be curious to learn what you find out...especially if it kills the thing. ~8^0

Which country is the main company of this guitar and where can you get it in Europe?
@jckovach11 ай бұрын
Line6 is headquartered in the USA. The main issue with this model is they don't make it any longer. I got the one in this video used from reverb.com.

nice. Have you tried altering the models with workbench?
@jckovach4 жыл бұрын
No. I'd picked up the guitar, bag, and power-supply/direct box used off of Reverb purely as a performance solution for a couple of tunes I used to play live fairly frequently. I could do some seriously deep diving with that workbench stuff, however. I tend to go overboard tweaking tweakable settings. Maybe sometime in the future. Maybe sooner if I get bored with it and stir-crazy from not playing out. Thanks for commenting and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

@@jckovach These days it's really hard to get the interface box for these, but if you see a deal on a Pod XT Live floorboard out there, that will get you connected to Line6Monkey and then you can alter the sounds onboard. For example, if you found the acoustic models "good but I need more 3 khz", you could re-EQ your models, or fix annoying string signal level issues (my B string is too loud).

@@jckovach John maybe you can get a used POD X3 Live. There's a guy on KIJJII in Halifax that is selling a POD X3 LIVE and a Variax 500 for $550 I think. He's selling the Variax 500 for $375 by itself and the I think the X3 live is about $225-- I believe you save $50 if you buy both. This is in Canadian dollars! Looked for it today probably sold but I did see a Pod X3 Live for $200 CAD. Its an old add 1 month old if interested check it out www.kijiji.ca/v-amp-pedal/markham-york-region/used-line-6-pod-x3-live/1492131565. How is this Variax 700 Acoustic sound as a plain acoustic guitar--i.e no models no amp? I know the old electric variaxes could not work an a non-modeled guitar. If this one works what does it sound like how is its tonal quality?
@jckovach4 жыл бұрын
@@PKHewer It doesn't really work as an acoustic...just slightly louder than a solid-body electric, about the same slight increase in volume as my Country Gentlemen with painted-on "f-holes" compared to a Les Paul.

Please, which amplifier do you use?
@jckovach3 жыл бұрын
This video was recorded straight into the xlr input on the camera but when I've played it live, I'll use a Crate PowerBlock head. It's like a direct box with an xlr out to send to the soundboard, plus some tone controls and some extra gain if I want.

Are those acoustic strings? What gauge too?
@jckovach4 жыл бұрын
Yes, they're acoustic strings. I believe I put 11 - 52s on it. When I got it it had super slinky electric strings on it and it buzzed (fretted-out) like crazy. The neck has settled in really nicely without any truss-rod adjustments needed.
