These guitars don't need the Helix to sound authentic but they _do_ need a FRFR audio system, such as a PA or studio monitors. Guitar amps don't have the frequency response.

There is a LOT of guitars that don't use wood anymore.... Aristides makes great ones, Flaxwood too and for acoustics, carbon fiber can't be beaten
