I like your demeanor as well as the way you explain things Keith. Lot's of guys try to be "entertaining", which makes them look like buffoons. You stay professional and focused on the details while still taking time to point out tricks of the trade as well as the point of things. I'm no machinist, but you earned my respect. Thanks for the videos.

I often perform line boring and ID welding. I think you would more understood by people who have little experience if you were to demonstrate the procedure while performing no a real life job. I appreciate your effort in sharing your knowledge.

@submarineboat Your welcome, I know its a while down the road, before that stage of the game but open eyes work better if they have a hint, on to what to be looking for along your way getting there. Keep it simple and I'd be glad to help if you need! Keith

I saw a video on a line boring kit. He showed the setup and used cones- only problem is that the cones were centering themselves on holes that were no longer round or centered on the original hole. I'm thinking I'll make 1in thick pillowblock plates. I have truck axles that I can turn between centers for nice boring bars.

Hi Keith, you are a real professional in your trade ! May I ask your opinion of the holes going through the boring bars ? Do they absolutely need to be square, or may a round hole, with a side hold that is drilled and taped for a set screw be just as good ? I know that the end of the set screw must have the cup or similar end ground flat. Thank you for your opinion. Regards, Pete.

This is a perfect example of how powerful sharing on KZbin is! Looking at Harry's (FactoryDragon87) vids and the nature of the work he is currently doing on his horizontal boring machine, getting set up to be capable of line boring would be huge for him! Plus, he already has a really big angle plate he could mount a flange bearing on.

Oh, thaks! I have the question for U.S.A. mild steel: how much C (carbon) it to contain? Does they to contain any/ other alloys? I ask for this because I want to compare view.

In my land mild steel is from SAE 1003 up to SAE 1030 (1035) carbon from 0,03 to 0,3 (0,35)%. Thank You for explain!

When bars are made up for production and or for one use, they may be made up and hardened and some other tricks done to them, but I for the most part just use mild steel or leaded stock, because I may modify the bar for the next use and like the freedoms, that allows me. ;{)---

Mild steel is a plain carbon steel, no other element is specified in its composition except carbon; for mild steel carbon content ranges from 0.16% to 0.29%. An example is SAE 1018, plain carbon steel with a carbon content of 0.18%, commonly used to manufacture cold-rolled steel bar and plate here in the USA.

I would have no objection if the machine had started with this system and changed them out, in a scheduled manor. They still need a true straight bore to work properly. ;{)-----

We need more mates like you in the USA. I hope you haven't been effected by the energy initiatives of your great country. Seems china is the only one making money on the windmills and solar cells. Wish they'd just build a bunch of nuke plants and be done with it.
