This "Line" is a combination of two Holdsworth Licks that I have heard him use as ways of getting from one place to another using chromatic patterns across the fretboard. I like to think of these in a sort of out there comparison to the use of enclosures and bebop scales in Jazz. Both of which are used to target chord tones. And, although these are quite a bit more abstract, they serve to get from one place to another while creating some very interesting and exciting sounds in the process. The first two bars is a line I believe I got from the K2 album, bars 3-4 is a take on a line he would often use but can definitely be heard on recordings of both Devil Take The Hindmost, as well as Metal Fatigue.
