Im giving you guys a range for once. This should be just enough for anyone who wants to know how much a Merchant Mariner makes. I get the question all the time but the truth is it's going to vary. Depending on how many months I sale, the company I'm contracted with, the contract itself, and the port location. So here it is!

Hey! hope all is good. In regards to SIU UA Program... how much free time do you get in phases 1-3 (weekends, holidays, breaks, any time of the day)? what did you take on your luggage the first time around (aside from what they require)? Whats the bathroom situation at the school🙃? thanks! keep up the vids!

Pretty much anytime after 5 unless your working in the kitchen which is required for a short time. Bathroom situation was remodeled since I was in the program and it’s much nicer, more like a gyms locker room in each barrack. Highest suggestion is a laptop and 2 terabyte external hard drive with or without movies. You’ll find people with lots of movies trust me.

That actually seems like pretty good pay for an AB. I was planning on going to a four year program to get the third engineer license, so can I expect quite a bit more than that starting as a third engineer? (After serving my time as a cadet during school of course)

Yes 3rd mates deck/engine can easily clear 80k-120k a year mattering on finding contracts and that would definitely help the 80k-120k cost of a 4 year academy...

I remember in one of your other videos you were talking about a test that you have to pass what kind of test is it? And does it stop you from completing the program?

If you’re asking about the reading/math test the union ask of you before joining the program.. no it’s not hard. Basic reading math just as a placement thing. If you completely bomb it the program requires you to do after class study which is actually a bonus if you think about it. Required studying.. to ensure you’re comprehending the material.

I have never saved over 20k in my life ever, every time i tried, something like incident happens and i lose money like couple gs and lose confidence. Hoping this journey will help me get it up :). Going to absorb as much info as i can, I am hungry for redemption of losing lot of money due to covid and last year incident i had in my life. I thought Trucking and getting CDL A would be the way to redemption but the way of the Seaman is more safer for me.

Differing between companies from what I’ve heard. The company I was with made it complicated. We got partial checks on the 15th and 30th then at the end of the 2 month pay period the rest of the money would be deposited into my account.

Some make even more some make even less mattering on seniority. But that’s what a 18 year old fresh out of high school 1 year through the program could be making. Debt free.

Food and board covered my man! PPE (personal protective equipment) also provided but if you have a personal preference in ear and eye protection I’d suggest buying your own. Some companies reimbursed for boots but don’t count on it.

While going through the schooling program were you allowed to smoke cigarettes,Vape or anything and that sort?

You shouldn’t it’s a nasty habit. But yes your allowed. Bring enough of your habit for 3 months and expect everyone to become a beggar. People that don’t smoke start smoking in the program. I say bring enough because once you’re on the campus there’s no leaving and the campus doesn’t sell.

@@misterceo2168 YEAH.. It's a nasty habit. We can lose and live without a lip. We can't breathe without a lung.. ha no excuses. Im always on the side of quitting nicotine even myself. I recently bought a ton of organic mint leaf chew I'll be trying out to help myself stop my nasty habit. Id hope for you to kick the habit as well but the program can be stressful so I hope you the best of luck!

@@misterceo2168 Whoa! The programs got a waiting list right now? I know exactly how you feel. I prepped for the program a long time before pulling the trigger and at that time I just wanted to drop everything and start it already. But if your working a job right now, just be patient. Stack up some more money till it's your time to fly out. Good luck!
