I'm taking my CDL permit test tomorrow and will be applying. I'm 27 years old and have my bachelors in a different field and looking to switch careers. One of my good buddies works for you guys in Local 104. Is it obtainable to get in without having experience in the field and without any schooling? SLTC is out of my budget. @ibewlocal10485 жыл бұрын
Yes Micheal. So for example we (Ibew 104) are currently in the first year of a 3 year contract. Our annuity is currently $15.50/hr, this Sept it goes up to $15.75/hr, and in the final year it $16/hr. Everything is negotiated, then brought to the union members and voted on. If they don’t want an increase in the retirement for whatever reason, they can put the money in their pockets, or wherever they see fit. Hope that helps.

If you have knowledge of ANSI and OSHA, from studies at college, you could apply then at a later point in time. Management? I believe in this field. This trade. If you haven’t worked your way from ground man straight to Journeyman, you don’t deserve a management/supervisor position. And I’m not referring to LCS either.

This is old and the numbers for Journeyman starts around $45/hr now. Then do the math for the others. However, taxes and per diem is where you lose money. They offered me $30/day per diem.😂 That starts to cost you, since it’s more than $30/day for travel and living. Just remember, you go where they send you and work your ass off for $45/hr. Sounds good until you do the math and realize $25/hr with OT locally, pays more, cost less and gives you time at home. It’s a great opportunity for young folks. You can get trained, certified, gain experience and switch to local. Just know everyone does things differently and local crews may not like Union folk. To each his own, but I took a different route all together.
@Henry-vq6tl3 жыл бұрын
That was a good video on how they break it down in pay looks to be low voltage guys are almost in the same ball park other then all that OT linemen get but good to know. The take away here is linemen do a lot more of a dangerous role which I think the numbers should be some what higher.
