For decades in UK, there has been a push to help single parents and they are quite common nowadays. However, that creates a lot of problems as well. Children grow up in single parent households generally have worse outcomes despite the benefits that these families receive. Due to changes in benefit system by successive government, a couple can be financially better off separating than being together. In some communities, there are a lot of boys growing up without a father figure and a good male role model and that leads to problems of gangs and crimes. I think Taiwan should tread very carefully in this.
