They taught us this some months ago in school, but only a little tiny bit, so it's really interesting for me to listen to you talking about it. I really like and appreciate the work you do Mr. Tuggy, I always learn something new. I'm looking forward to watch the Spanish version too, just in case I didn't quite catch something

Ay, yo pensaba que ya no era tanto problema. Yo lo oigo bien en mi computadora. ¿Qué pasa, no se oye, o se oye muy distorsionado, o qué? Dang! I thought that was more or less fixed. I hear it fine on my computer. What happens, is it not loud enough (like before) or is it muffled or distorted, or what?

¡Ay! Ya tengo un micrófono que debería de servir, pero me da flojera. Si grabo el sonido aparte del video (y no sé grabar conjuntamente en un sólo formato con micrófono separado) creo que me va a hacer tardar mucho más tiempo jugando con la edición. (Ya me cuesta mucho más de lo que quisiera.) Voy a mantener en mente tu recomendación.

Thanks for Video. Kali in Tunica language means to stand up and Calli in Nahuatl means House. I can see a connection there in standing up a house or building a house. One thing i truly enjoy is how languages continually evolve, best modern examples are acronyms in the vernacular like Laser, or where a word has a denotation but also carries a connotation and likely how false friends are created.

What continually amazes me is how you can take extremely diverse ideas (meanings, if you like) and, once you start looking, find connections where you would not expect them. Does kali in Tunica mean to stand up (yourself), or to stand something else up?

@@davidtuggyt In the book "a Structural and Lexical Comparison of the Tunica, Chitimacha, and Atakapa languages" by John R Swanton, it does not specify it just means to stand or stand up. In my crazy theory the Tunica tribe or Yoron/Yuron are the Mexica Yopico Calpulli. Also descended from Tenek or Huastec Maya of Veracruz,Hidalgo, SLP, Mexico or as the Aztecs called the Cuexteca. Tama in Huastec is meeting place, Tam means residence, place or site and in Tunica Tama means to beg but also Mountain or residence and town.

I have really learned and much benefitted from them as you have made some difficult concepts and ideas of cognitive linguistics and cognitive grammar (CG)easy to comprehend. I am wondering if you have any plans on doing other videos about some grammatical categories like voice and modal auxiliaries in CG! I am looking forward to seeing more videos. Thank you

@davidtuggyt
@davidtuggyt 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, temporal length is not the same as height, and this in certainly not onomatopoeia, but there is still a naturalness or parallelism of some sort going on. A whole lot of “synaesthetic” effects show up here. Too many linguists have dubbed them “not interesting” because there’s no prediction to be had, but I continue to think they’re important if you want to understand instead of just predict.

Gracias por este video. Son conceptos que de alguna manera aprendí en la universidad acá, en inglés, cuando hacía la maestría como maestro de inglés como segundo idioma. Al no escucharlo en español, la cosa es más intensa al ser mi idioma pasivo. De hecho, fue mi primera cursada universitaria en un idioma distinto y me hace pensar muchas veces lo difícil que hubiera sido hacerlo hace veinte años atrás cuando, si bien sabía inglés, no era todavía bilingüe.
