I went to military summer camps when I was a teen where I and a bunch of kids like me, who wanted to pursue that career field, got to experience boot camp for two weeks out of the year (one week in the summer, one in the winter). Lots of kids didn't end up shitting for the entire thing because they were too afraid to ask to go off to the bathroom. Any little perceived slight to the admin staff meant a 3-hour smoke session for an entire academy of about 800 14-year-old kids. About halfway through one of the academies, one of the officers went individually to each barracks to candidly tell every single attending cadet that they were, in fact, allowed to ask for bathroom breaks. The very next day, the entire academy got smoked for using the bathrooms "too much". Bear in mind, we weren't a bunch of shithead gangbanger kids in a scared straight program to be re-educated - nearly all of us wanted to go into law enforcement or military fields. Great way to introduce kids into the career field... glad I'm going into web design instead.

Amber Ingargiola No, but I imagine it's way way harder than anything I ever had to do. My interest in joining the military waned pretty hard about 3 years ago. Naiadryade Sorry, a smoke session is where you are forced to do physical exercise past the point of muscle failure, typically. I never had a ton of problems with it, but since we were all pretty young, a lot of us were out of shape, and the officers wanted us to be doing our PT in unision, so a lot of it was planking for several minutes at a time while you wait for all the fat/uncoordinated kids to get into front leaning rest without falling over. Otherwise it was just tons and tons of pushups and a few miles worth of running.

I went to a scout camp every year for I think 7 or 8 years straight, even working there one year for a month. Then the next year I worked at the National Jamboree, the most recent one in I think 2013 for a month, which was amazing. And that's not to mention my family's and scout troop's backpacking and camping trips and camping on road trips. Yeah, I have no problems camping whatsoever. I think 7 weeks would be awesome, and in fact, including scout camp, working at the jamboree, and vacation/backpacking that year, other than detasseling my entire summer from the day it started to the end was camping.

I spent a week and a half every year of my teenage years in Colorado, sleeping in a horse trailer, riding mules into the mountains, and hunting elk. Prior to that, I always camped mostly for fishing, and occasionally for whitetail deer hunting. I loved it, but not having a pot to squat on is the absolute worst for me.

I did a 7 week camp in NC when I was 11 and it was dope, shooting guns, archery, canoe/kayaking, riding horses in the mountains, rock slides, cougar mountain, sexy girl camp counselors, watching planet of the apes on the first Friday, getting bucked off the horse, chopping wood with axes and stoking fires. Great experience

I'm a summer camp counselor at Hidden Hollow for my second year and I love every minute of it. I've been going to since I was 10 and I'm now 18. I wouldn't change anything and if I didn't have camp I would probably crawl up and die ha ha. It's so much fun.
