30:34 It's a shame how far Frank Miller has fallen when you see him give Cap one of his most iconic lines: Cap: "I'm loyal to nothing General . . . except the dream." This is one reason why Captain America refuses to be tied to any political party and why he is willing to fight the American Government at times. While he's loyal to his country, he is first and foremost loyal to the people and principals of that country, since parties and presidents change. But those core values that we pledge allegiance to, those are eternal, and those can always be relied on to guide us to a better tomorrow.

There's a reason the Daredevil Netflix series leaned so heavily on adapting parts of this story arc through both the first and third seasons. It's an incredibly powerful story because all of the characters have such strong motivations, the characterizations are dark and intense, it's an easy story to follow from a narrative perspective while we still agonize watching Matt unravel while Fisk twists him around and around. I've been told by fans before that they often let their little kids watch the show with them because I don't use more intense swears. This one has a lot of Gordon Ramsey swearing and brings up pornography and drug use a lot as part of the story, soooo decided it might not be a bad call to give people a heads up.

Yeah, even when he's good, Miller is not child-friendly. I was a bit surprised to read that people watch your show with their kids. On the one hand, most of your jokes are lighthearted and silly (not meant to imply low quality) and you might be the only media reviewer I follow who comes across as genuinely wholesome. On the other hand, you review a lot of grimdark edgelord "sexual objectification and assault make a story more realistic" comics. Yeah, adding a content warning makes total sense. Keep being awesome and wash your hands!

OMG OMG OMG SUPERMAN #775?! Dude! I've been reading comics for thirty years now, I own a few thousand books, and that is the single issue that stands out as my hands-down, all-time favorite! I wish it had come out in the 1990's when everything had to be all grimmdark, but whatever, it was freaking amazing. It was everything I love about Superman, scripted and laid out like a movie. I'm REALLY looking forward to hearing your take on it!

8/10, needs less Kingpin in a speedo -- but yeah, that was -- intense without being outright horrible. I am -- impressed. Did not think I'd ever say that about a Miller story after some of the others you've shown on this channel. O.o It's intense, it's dark, but -- it's not as hopeless and PAINFUL as some of his later stuff. Though, admittedly, my favorite parts were you throwing in the Gordon Ramsay clips. XD NOW I get that tweet of yours regarding people wanting Gordon to review Frank's comics. . .

My thoughts on this episode/comic: I don't mind the Avengers showing up. The battle in the streets was a big enough mess to warrant it, and it's always nice to see reminders that this is a shared universe rather than ignoring that and the implications--like when Superman appears in Gotham in "No Man's Land" or "Hush"--and they don't derail the story or make Daredevil seem incompetent. Also, it's always nice to see Captain America chew out authority figures and reiterate his loyalty is to the American people and their ideals. It's especially nice to see that contrasted against Nuke's more jingoistic sentiments. I also love how all of heroes hit these really dark moments when they kind of close in on themselves but then rise above them and start trying to do good, and--despite having so much less power than the Kingpin--they're able to win. It's like they say "All that is necessary for Evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing." But when the good people do step up, the Kingpin's empire starts to topple. I love Kingpin in this: he's manipulative and calculating. I love that his refusal to just shoot Matt in the head when he has the chance has valid reasons instead of just "plot armor." Actually the worse thing I can say is that--even though Linkara's voice is perfect--I wish he'd tried to mimic Roscoe Lee Browne's voice from the 1994 Spider-man series. I watched it as a kid, and that was my first exposure to the Kingpin, and dang if it doesn't still hold up. That said, this episode was a lot of fun. Well done, Linkara for turning this epic-length story into something grockable.

I can actually explain why Kingpin never sent his regular assassin's after Daredevil in this story or subsequent stories written by Miller. 1.) Kingpin specifically states that killing him outright would be too easy and he wants to make Murdoch suffer before he gets the killing blow. It's a power kick where he wants to completely tear him down mentally, financially, and physically before ultimately crushing whatever fraction of a life he has left. 2.) Kingpin has tried Assassin's in the past on Daredevil. The most dangerous was a guy you've probably heard of, Bullseye. He managed to kill Elektra in what's considered to be one of the most shocking deaths in Comic history but Bullseye was never able to bring down Daredevil. Why would Kingpin, who is an intelligent and scheming man, want to send Regular Assassin's after Daredevil when he knows that if guys like Bullseye can't get it done, what good would a couple of goons with pistols do? It would be an exercise in futility, a waste of resources, a waste of time, and not get the job done. Plus Daredevil just took down Nuke singlehandedly after months of being beaten down by Kingpin's plan. If Nuke, a Super Soldier armed with huge guns and drugs, can't beat a Blind man then refer back to what I said about Goons with pistols. 3.) Kingpin's resources were totally destroyed at the end of this book. It took him years to rebuild his criminal empire since the damage done by the investigations and ties to the Government exposed him. Not to mention the Avengers were on his ass a lot for bringing Nuke into the fold and he had to lay low for a while. If he suddenly restarted an Assassination scheme on Daredevil then his already depleted resources would be strained and if the Avengers got word of it then he could just expect to get Captain America beating the snot out of him before throwing him into some kind of maximum prison facility for supervillains.

I imagine the Nuke arc was to some degree mandated by the editorial to have a crossover with Captain America to improve sales. Remember that writers rarely get to decide such things. And as far as Daredevil/Captain America crossovers go, this is easily one of the best out there.

"Everybody *BETRAYED* me! I'm *FED UP* with this *WORLD!!!"* 17:49 - Wow. That's actually a REALLY good example of Frank Miller's use of negative space. Matt Murdock can't see, but he CAN piece together shapes in his mind based on what he feels around him, allowing him to "see" these stark shapes in a void of absolute nothing. Expertly done. "Stealing now, Matt? You truly HAVE fallen from grace." Hey, the Avatar from Ultima said "Stealing is WRONG" right before summoning an archdemon. If THAT guy says it's wrong, it must be wrong.
