I think its important to see the difference between "feeling down" and having "clinical depression". Some stuff cannot just be shaken off. Those inner demons are really complicated.
@ankh-ef-en-khonsu3274
@ankh-ef-en-khonsu3274 3 жыл бұрын
yea, this is an important distinction that needs to be made. clinical depression is entirely different and not something you can shrug off. most people don't experience clinical depression. it lasts years and cripples you to the point of suicide if not treated.

Exactly. Major Depressive Disorder is hell on earth. I feel where Chester is coming from. I am treatment resistant and have been dealing with MDD for over 20 years. It’s a job just to get out of bed every morning. That “demon” is always in your head.
@jleif7736

I somewhat disagree, the same things that can get you through feeling down could as well work with clinical depression. It's all up to you whether or not you have the free will. This is coming from a heroin addict, so I had a PhD in utter misery. Make no mistake it's the hardest thing any one can probably do. But nothing is impossible. Btw i've been sober for 5 years now, I'm not currently using.

This song is said to have a special meaning to Chester especially, since its lyrical content is based on his own life experiences. And due to such, he reportedly got emotional when he was called upon to perform “Crawling” live. While listening to Linkin Park’s “Crawling”, it becomes obvious that the narrator is dealing with a serious situation. The lyrics read as if he is inflicted with some sort of internal dilemma. And this dilemma ultimately results in “too much pressure”, ‘confusion’, ‘insecurity’ and other unfavorable conditions. But what exactly serves as the source of these issues is open to the interpretation. This song manifests that nasty feeling that something is crawling under your skin. Much of the lyric delivered by Chester Bennington deals with the side effects of taking methamphetamines - a drug he used throughout his teens. The anxiety, hallucinations and a feeling of things crawling under his skin. The song, though, can apply to anyone feeling uncomfortable and helpless. In the video, the girl (played by Katelyn Rosaasen) is physically abused by her father. At the beginning, we can see all her bruises. Many of the lyrics demonstrate how hard it is to break the cycle of abuse ("These wounds, they will not heal" and "It's haunting, how I can't seem to find myself again, my walls are closing in"), and how self-confidence is crushed. The blue crystal background closes in on her at the beginning of the first chorus - this shows an emotional shell that she has built around her. The thick make-up is like a mask, trying to hide what's going on inside. The septum ring is designed to link with Chester's lip ring. When the girl walks away from her boyfriend, it's because she's too scared to get close to people. This is also true for the high school bathroom scene. When Chester sings, "Against my will I stand beside my own reflection," he and Katelyn are looking at each other. She looks like she wants to get out of the shell she's in. She also sees painful memories from her past in the crystal. When the second chorus starts, the crystal begins to break and chunks of it are flying about - this is her shell falling down. It represents her father's departure, as does her smiling at the end with the roses in the vase. She's not wearing the thick make-up because she doesn't feel like she needs the protection of a mask - she's got nothing to hide from.

First of all- y’all always have great reactions and understanding of the songs you hear from LP. :) To be honest everytime I hear this and I hear him sing “confusing what is real” at the end I hear it like …. After everything he went through, his trauma, addiction, sexual abuse… like it can eat at you and tear you apart and darken your world through haunting memories even though it is the past. & even though there is new light and your free from it - it’s just there under your skin apart of you just waiting to remind you at any given moment what happened in your past to give you ptsd. I deal with this on a daily basis after been with my ex of four years, (sexual assault & physical& emotional abuse) and Lord I should be having the best days sometimes but it’s just there lingering… I knew what this song meant as a teenager but as an adult? I resonate so much more with the lyrics. Rip Chester

Saw them on tour in Cincy, he’s incredible, u think, he can’t sound better live right..? YES HE CAN, Chester had incredible talent unlike anything I’ve seen, his intensity, emotions, & message are all FELT…some say talented ppl often struggle w/ toughest demons, if I’m not mistaken any1 feel free to correct me, Chester suffered from mental illness/issues & this song, I felt told us some of what he experienced/went through…Asia I thought ur perspective was interesting/unique, bc that interpretation was my 1st time hearing some1 put it in that way…u guys are great always giving different perspectives!! Tear up when listening/watching his last performance “One More Light”, u have to see that performance, WARNING it’s emotional..it’s as if he knew this was the last performance, & knowing it was his last time on stage, its difficult to express the feelings…he took his own life later that same year…Sorry for the downer comment but I thought u guys seemed touched by his music like many of us & just wanted to give u a bit of background…

For this song...its a perfect word by word of how it feels to struggle and deal with Anxiety. You are controlled by the fear. It distorts reality around you, making things scary when they really shouldn't be. You no longer have any confidence in yourself. And you feel like you can't find who you used to be, before the anxiety started to take over. Its under the skin, so most don't see the struggle you are dealing with, as you try to regain control and find yourself.

LP meant so much to me growing up so it's so dope to see my favorite reaction channel going through them. It still gets me every time I listen to their older songs (Hybrid Theory/Meteora) and how shocked I was when he was gone. Then you realize it was all in the lyrics the whole way and not just "moody" lyrics that were so common in alt. rock back then. That probably sounds stupid, but most of all wanted to comment that I always appreciate ya'll, great reaction and breakdown as always so there's that!

@dwaynelambkin5144

I think you might be surprised what women "worry about"….. As complimentary to the eyes as Asia is... I am willing to bet she has thought she isn't " a gorgeous woman or not good enough" at some point... Perhaps no longer... Because I am going to assume BJ and their chemistry has built confidence allowing her to see her self value and beauty... But to this day I have never met a woman that hasn't doubted either their physical appearance or their self worth let alone both... Hence why in my opinion it's always important for us as men to show women how important they are... How beautiful they are... And how worthy they are...!!!! And when push comes to shove... If it wasn't for women our worth would be worthless... As it takes the existence of women for us to even exist...!!!

Chester was sexually abused for a period of time as a child by someone the family knew from which he never really recovered. As far as I know, this song is about how it feels to survive abuse (of any kind). It's why it's so potent and the imagery shows a young lady clearly in an abusive relationship from which she manages to escape.
