This is is a grower. It's super odd so you're not used to it the first time. After a couple of listens you REALLY start to appreciate it. This is what happens with most of this album, that's why when it came out most people hated it, but now if you ask LP fans this album is one of their favorites

it's certainly true for me when I first heard preview of songs from ATS I was pissed, saying it sounds like crap after I listened to the entire album a few times I started thinking it's their best album - and I have this opinion to this day

Fun fact: Chester is actually the one singing the "Aaah"s in the chorus as well as the, shall we say, exotic vocals at the end.
@ArmoredMexican Жыл бұрын
It's Chester and some gang vocals, You can easily hear Brad in the chorus.

This is why I love Linkin Park. They make whatever feels and sounds good to them and leave everyone else to figure out what it is. Forever my faves. Thanks for reacting!

I love this verse of Mike calling people out for continually asking for Hybrid Theory 2.0 and telling them to basically fuck off.

Well, the beats and the scale is middle eastern with Indian Punjabi in nature. The last vocalising is definitely a middle eastern influence.

this is one of my favourite LP songs. my only gripe is that in the first few bars he reused the word Follow as the end rhyme without flipping it. HOWEVER in those same first few bars he basically told everyone to stop comparing him to Eminem, which at the time any rapper with lighter skin got that comparison, so i dig that and think it makes up for it.

You probably feel like you've heard it cause I think the first one is very distinct egyptian scale that Mike's singing. I think you react like i do to this one (you said you didn't like it at first, but then started to like it). On it's own it's sounds harsh and kinda ominous, but then when they introduce the uplifting chords behind it, the whole atmosphere change, it's like the melody transforms but it doesn't. It's very fascinating what context does! Second one that Chester is singing also sounds very eastern.

It doesn’t sound like Chester singing the “Ahhhh” in the chorus, but it is. I thought they hire another person for this track, idk why. I’m in shock rn The music is so unique in every other way. But damn, Chester is a fucking god
@dronnington2 жыл бұрын
And it's not. I mean he's on far back in layer but the main vocal you hear it's Mike. So you can hear tone differences between choruses and outro after.

You should definitely listen to the Live version at the ITunes Festival in 2011. Also, Chester is the one doing the "choir vocals" the whole way through, and at the end.

Yeah, this album is weird. VERY weird. The best I can call it is electronic, since most songs and transitions have more artificial effects and sounds thrown in to them, but ATS as a whole is very experimental, sometimes to a fault. But when it hits, it's an absolute home run. I guess that's why I would rank this album higher than their follow-up, Living Things, even though I like that album better. It mixes the electronic sounds of ATS with more of their old rap-rock style, and is more consistently good, in my opinion... but it also feels like it's their least ambitious record. It feels safe, like it's meant to be a crowd pleaser, rather than an evolution or a bold new experiment. I don't love ATS, but it's memorable, it's bold, and it's probably the Linkin Park album I respect the most out of all their work. I'm looking forward to when you reach The Hunting Party, though. I think that album is hugely underrated, and it's by far the hardest rock LP ever made. Like ATS though, it's a grower, so definitely give it two or three listens. It's full blast all the time, which can definitely make it difficult to listen to at times if you aren't in that kind of mood.

Yeah, or at least 2 different eastern scales. No expert, but the first one Mike's singing sounds like a distinct Egyptian scale to me.
