For me, even though I had nothing to do with his death, I feel a personal connection to his passing, for 2 different reasons. You see, I was just 15 years old, and I was about to start, my freshman year of high school. And as you can all probably imagine, I was feeling, happy, excited, a little bit nervous and scared, like all of the above. And then, I eventually decided, to put those emotions I was feeling at the time aside, and then let high school start off smoothly for me, and see where I would’ve gone from there. But then, my freshman year of high school, got off to a rocky start, as well as have a tragic beginning for me. I know that she was old, and it was her time to go, but my grandmother, who I loved a lot, she was just 85 years old, and she unfortunately passed away in the same month and year, as I was going to start, my freshman year of high school. And well, it was the month of August of the year, and it wasn’t right away, like right after she died, but later on in 2015, as it wasn’t even by early September, but I do remember, somewhere in between September and December of 2015, around October or November of 2015, I went down a dark path, and I had thoughts of suicide, as I was really sad and depressed and heartbroken, that my grandmother was dead, as I didn’t know, how else to deal, or even cope with her death, it was really hard for me, and I was ready to do it, but I then thought deeper about it, and I asked myself, if I would’ve died from suicide, how would’ve my family and my friends all react? What would everybody around me, say or think about me, if I would’ve been dead, at just 15 years old, from suicide? And I was also thinking about my grandmother, if she was still alive at the time, and if she would’ve known, that I was dead from suicide, how would she have reacted? What would she, have said or thought about me killing myself, if she was still alive? It was hard, and it took me at least a while from what I remember about that time, but I eventually got through it, from when I was 15 years old in high school, as it also took me a while to learn, on how to get through that darkness, and then deal with it, and then eventually move on. And also, my birthday is on July 11th, as I was born on July 11th 2000, and well, almost 2 years later after my grandmother died, from when I was about to be a high school junior, well, I was 17 years old, and just literally 9 days after my 17th birthday passed, on July 20th of 2017, we all heard the sad and tragic news, that aches Bennington of Linkin Park passed away, at just 41 years old, after he died from committing suicide, by hanging himself. And for me, even though I had nothing to do with it, those are the 2 main reasons, on why I’ve felt a deep and personal connection to his death, such as, I almost died from suicide, which is how he died, but it’s also because he died, in the exact same month, as when my birthday is, as my birthday is this month on July 11th of 2000, and the way I see it, even all the way up to this day, if Chester Bennington of LP would’ve died on my birthday from 2017, it would’ve been worse for me, but he still died in July of 2017, which is also the month as I was born, almost 22 years ago.

For years, I’ve struggled with a single question. “Why does Chester’s death affect me so much?” I could never put it into words. When Meatloaf passed, I realized I enjoyed his music because it help me to know my father a bit better than I ever would have otherwise. Chester - and all of Linkin Park - was the same, only they helped me to know myself. They put words to my feelings. Words I never could have expressed otherwise. Thank you, Linkin Park.
