Fun Fact: this game was the first time new lines were recorded for Yoshi in 13 years. Kazumi Totaka (the composer of many Nintendo games and creator of Totaka's Song) recorded voice lines for the character in 1997 for Yoshi's Story, which were used for every appearance since then until the development of Super Mario Galaxy 2.

The interesting thing is, the Yoshies you play as in Yoshi's Story are technically baby Yoshies, so there's a chance Totaka never meant for adult Yoshies to sound like that. But then Nintendo kept on using the voices for all yoshies. Ever since Yoshi's Story, regular Yoshies have also had much more cutesy proportions. It's almost like everyone just forgot they were babies in that game.

If you liked the throwback galaxy, there’s even more galaxies referencing previous games, including a galaxy that is now the planet from toy time galaxy that was 8-bit mario/luigi, a boss rush of a bunch of Mario galaxy bosses, and a recreation of one of the super Mario sunshine secret missions

Definitely Same. This was the First Mario game I ever played, first game I ever 100%ed (with the help of my parents because the perfect run was evil as a 6 or 7 year old) and I come back to it all the time because of how fun it is

Mario Galaxy 2 is what I grew up and I have a blast playing the game as a kid. I finally 100 percent the game 3 years ago and I still love playing the game including the first Mario galaxy game.

I love how intuitive this game is. Like the number of times Linkus was encouraged to do something and it resulted in progress/bonus stars instead of outright told is a testament to the amazing game design. Like the Yoshi bullet bill or the blooming planet star.

Ah, yes. Mail Toad, the hidden GOAT of the Toad Brigade...they thought they were slick, making him the filler 2p slot in Captain Toad. Mf has gone back and forth to the center of the galaxy SOLO in TWO games. And even if he didn't, the fact he that has a smuggling network direct from Peach to Mario is maybe even more impressive.

I remember this game. My cousins had given it to me with his old wii for Christmas, and he had already gotten to the end game. Sadly I didn’t know how to play, and I was also pretty bad at the game so I never managed to experience it. I cold have started a new file but the wii was my first console and I didn’t know how any of this worked, so my main memories about the game are just of me running around on the Mario-shaped island climbing trees. So glad I could basically experience this game for the first time lol

My favorite part of the Galaxy games by far is that they have so many creative and unique ideas, but you never stand still on them for too long. You get just the right amount of time with them where you feel like you've really used the full functionality of the mechanic, but not so long where it becomes a bother. If people were to ask me an example of good game designs, I would point here first, no question about it.

ok a little off topic but there are 3 potential reasons galaxy 2 isn't in 3d all stars. 1: branding. if galaxy 2 was in then 50% of the entire collection is galaxy. It'd ironically look like LESS variety 2: work. Galaxy 1 isn't actually an emulated version. the NVidia Shield in China got HD versions of some wii games, and that's where galaxy 1 came from. they'd have to do it all again for galaxy 2, and this was probably just a cute little anniversary project to them. 3. use of pointer. Yoshi uses the cursor a LOT. this would mean you'd have to simultaneously press buttons and use the touchscreen in handheld mode, making the game basically unplayable on switch lite. maaaybe you could map it to the right stick??? Either way, it'd kinda suck. ultimately, i can kinda see why they didn't do it, especially for the last reason.

7:05 counterpoint: its REALLY fun to pick them up as the 2nd player, especially to have something for your younger sibling to do while you play the game (i was the younger sibling and I loved it). Especially collecting a lot and then blasting enemies away from the 1st player/mario to defend them. Or helping in puzzles, or even to just watch the bits blast off into space like little shooting stars. Though yeah, for 1 player I wish they could've done another mechanic so you don't have to always point to collect them because I agree in 1 player mode it feels awkward. Maybe when you collect like 1-3 then the rest magnetize to you or something, idk, just something else

I remember way back then they didn't like Windwaker graphics and prefer the "HD" looking Twilight Princess at the time, but nowadays Windwaker looks WAY better than Twilight Princess. Trying to make things realistic, graphics will improve. What was once seen as "realistic" is simply not. Even graphics today feel ultra realistic, but you can tell some games released in like 2020 just look less realistic than stuff in 2024.

Special world and 100% is a ride, and the final 2 levels are some of the most epic in terms of how they are named and played. Highly recommended to complete 100% and see what the end levels are. Maybe in the future you could try the super mario 602 speedrun, but that is not for the feint of heart...

You can use the Yoshi flutter glitch to get him to the final boss with Mario but it messes with the animations since he's not supposed to be up there😂 And if positioned correctly,he can be re-mounted after each hit and be taken to the credits as well

You should definitely check out the special world and collect the green stars. Most of them are just interestingly placed and you need to do specific jump techniques to get there.
