I was relieved to see the mention of the Linthorpe pottery at the end, the most famous thing about Linthorpe. It was home to England's first world class artistic designer , Christopher Dresser who inspired Alessi designs. So nice to see the impressive suburban houses.

Just found this walk, really lovely. My father was born in Linthorpe, just off Green Lane and attended Acklam Hall in the late 1940 into the 50s. My Grandparents watched their house being built in the 1930s and could choose different items of furniture as a gift from the developers. They chose a table and I still have it today - despite my Granda spilling fence creosote all over the top!. Linthorpe is beautiful, with some fabulous house designs. Thanks for taking the walk.

Once again you've brought my past back to life! Linthorpe, given I grew up in Grove Hill, was an absolute kingdom on its own, with its, to a child's eye, HUGE houses and tree lined leafy roads and avenues. From '71 to '77 I attended what was St. George's RC Secondary Modern, the only Catholic comprehensive in the area which made for some fairly scary trips to and from school each day, lol. There was Boynton & Hustler and Kings Manor, all C of E and which we Catholic lads and lasses had to pass in order to reach school! If one took the school bus then you were relatively safe, at least from the bullies from the other schools. I was the only boy from my junior school, St. Joseph's, who went to St. George's, all my mates went to St. Thomas's! Talk about traumatic, lol. Going from a fairly small juniors up to a massive seniors not knowing a soul ... my 1st day entering the huge school lobby is imprinted in my mind decades later. Oh and now I think about it, I'm remembering the Avenue of Trees which ran the entire length between Hustler and St. George's. To a young lad it was like a forest.Not too far from the school, maybe a mile or so, was/is the crematorium where not too many years later, ( '82 and '83 ), my parents were despatched and their ashes distributed in the Garden of Remembrance! Watching your superb film I'd forgotten just how expansive Linthorpe is.

Great to watch - happy memories - you passed my house at 119 Roman Road - my dads childhood home at 4 Emerson Avenue and you finished at the Little Theatre where I was in the Scouts Gang Show in 1966 and 1968.

Ha I started the enfants 1949 went on to juniors passed scholarship to High School for Boys.We lived in Balfour Tce and used to bike to school all along these roads every day.I can remember nearly every Brick in the walls 🙏👏Thanks for the great post 👍🥰

Always creeped me out linthorpe when I was a nipper. I'd wedge myself between me mam and gran . Even worse was the road off the avenue towards the palladium shops . Big houses always seemed to have dimly lit rooms with book cases 😅 still get a shiver even now if go past them 😂

My grandfather, played for Spennymoor United, and won a cup, I still have his medallion, these were given to the actual players. He and his brother played for that team, him as defence and his bother as the goalie.

Whinney Banks school was actually a secondary school too (hence the size), but this was later amalgamated with another to form 'Acklam Grange' in Acklam.

Even tho middlesbrough isn't a massive city( but it is a city centre for teesside) I grew up in easy Middlesborough and until I started my apprenticeship with Cleveland County Council I'd never been this far west In my Town. Ayresome park( where the mighty Boro played) was as far as I got. Only to find half my mates from linthorpe Acklam had only passed through my kneck .of the woods Ormesby on their way to Redcar the seaside or the races. Lovely area linthorpe. We are made from iron and steel and have the North Sea salt air and the scent of Heather from the north yorkshire moors in our lungs!

As you approach back to Cambridge Rd, from Lindon Grove, you can see the new housing, sitting on, what once was a Boy & Girls Care home. At the forefront of the grounds still stands what was once a Youth Action building. Also As you turned onto Roman Road, to your right, still stands the original building that was part of a Work House, and what I believe was a hospital before (I could be wrong). Albeit, that corner has had some renovation to the internal and external build. What Knowledge do you have of the grounds, before Social Services had residential ownership?

My old stomping ground in the 80s use to love the linthorpe pub , last orders in there Friday night then off down to the speakeasy or maddison or the old bongo club, old Brian clough wasn't far from where he grew up valley Road, maybe do a walk as a bit of a tribute for us boro fans . The younger ones that is cheers.

The thing to notice with Linthorpe, Middlesbrough and every town and city in England is that drivers of vehicles will always park with two wheels on the pavement, making it impossible for invalids to get by in their wheelchairs. Today hasn't been too bad but it can be very dangerous on other days and it is a shame Local Councils ignore this serious problem.

You missed all the beautiful treelined streets of phillipsville. Claude, phillips and Westwood avenues. Much nicer than any you walked down, but enjoyed the tour nevertheless
