Chris has an infectious character. Ever since I found "A Prairie Home Companion" last year, I've never missed a show on Saturday evenings. I drive for a living, so it's easy to never miss a show.

YES. This was one of the best moments of the show. Take a familiar theme everyone knows and bring it to a new level.

Live From Here is such a great show. I've been introduced to lots of folks I've never heard before. Not to mention that Chris is a world-class Mandolin player.

I bet Chris’ parents freaked when he said “when I grow up I want to play the mandolin for a living”. Well, look at him now!

I doubt it. He was playing all over the country at a young age and had his own CDs when he was like 9 lol

Chris Thile was early acted as a child prodigy of the mandolin playing. No wonder, since he grabbed the mandolin at the tender age of five and perfected his mandolin playing in childhood within a few years to a level that allowed him to produce his first album at the age of thirteen, having launched together with his father five years earlier the bluegrass band Nickel Creek.

In this particular performance, it seems to me that that the arrangement adds an enormous amount. The heavy and dominant use of very low bass notes, and the pounding on the bass drum just make it a different tune. Reminds me a lot of the very low pitch rumble that was present in the soundtrack of Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film "2001: A Space Odyssey," where the use of very low frequencies in the soundtrack really added a lot to the emotional impact.

Yeah, that mandolin probably applied for retirement after that show, but Chris played it well! And about beat it half to death doing it! 😂

It's a fair question. None of the musicians are named in the video description (though they are introduced at the end of the video). Chris Thile on mandolin Chris Eldridge on guitar Alex Hargreaves on fiddle Jeff Babko on keys Mike Elizondo on bass Ted Poor on drums Playing "Linus and Lucy" by Vince Guaraldi on the radio show Live from Here
