A first priority is never what I expected, personally. I'd like for their first priority to be them keeping their doors open, if they have a great product I'd like to be able to continue to purchase. Not: keeping the doors open>making the CEO rich as tits> making investors richer than tits>making sure the stuff breaks > making sure they make more money once stuff breaks> the garden in front of their main office staying beautiful>did we forget anything?> Oh yeah, the customer.. I guess he can be satisfied with whatever is left. Oh, there's nothing left? Do we have any pens or something we can send them? No... Well, we need better marketing I think then... @@danielnelson4881 lol, amen to that. It's a shame what's out there. I have an old Dell Latitude from like 2007 that still serves as a backup workhorse laptop, and it's just so amazing. Great for basic internet, videos, movies, music, office stuff, etc. Hell, it even runs many games from the PS3-era pretty well with its dedicated Nvidia GPU. Literally everything is replaceable: battery, RAM, wifi module, extra HDD slot, optical drive...even the Core2Duo CPU is ported and upgradeable. It was definitely designed to be used for a long time. And that's why it's still serving strong in 2021 despite being built in 2007, haha. I know that I sure as heck don't expect my little Asus ultrabook to still be kicking in the year 2035, lol. At best, someday the battery will probably bloat and crack the touchpad. And I really love the Asus laptop, for what it is, but it's completely un-upgradeable: can't even take it past its stock 8GB of RAM. I hate all of the waste. It's so unnecessary.

Most people who decide over the money and time of a firm that is a little bigger do not have a clue about the works that is done. Too much other stuff like marketing, management and connection build up come in the way of the product. Sure these are as well important but not on a level that the main product looses quality. But the thing is people like to stand high in the rank. So saving money and time is a loved way to "rank up". The smaller workers have to compensate this. Finally, a manufacturer that ACTUALLY seems to care about the environment, instead of just saying that they do.
@jamesyoo47793 жыл бұрын
That depends on their longevity. If they are still here in the next five years or more, they'll be able to make a considerable difference since that will be when people will start needing CPU/GPU upgrades and purchase a new MOBO, rather than throwing away the whole laptop. By that point, they (hopefully) will have increased their variety of modules and internal combinations available, as well, further decreasing whole units being discarded. But if they fizzle out in the next year, 2, or 3, they would've just created a modular design with no module to be found, and upgradeable motherboards with no one to design the future chipsets. I know they're making a lot of their designs public, but if they end up collapsing so soon, they wouldn't have attracted enough people to possibly crowd-source parts and upgrades. Plus, future designs might be such a far departure from present ones that they might be forced to launch designs incompatible with the one they're launching now. With all that said, though, I hope they will find success. I certainly intend on buying one as soon as the traffic dies down since people are literally hugging the site to death.

True, but I'm wary of startups, recommended or not. I got the NudeCNC direct die waterblock based on a LMG recommendation, and no doubt it's a great product, but I purchased the thing 3 years ago for an 8700k, and they still haven't delivered it (Though supposedly it ships this month, literally 4 generations of CPU after the 8700k). I'll absolutely buy a product from a new company when its in stock and I can get it ordered and delivered the same day I pay, but I'm done supporting any company, no matter how good their product is, before they actually have a finished shippable product ready to send to me. Not these guys fault mind you, but there's just a lot of dumb-asses with great product ideas, and absolutely no business sense who are "functionally" scamming people whether they intend to or not, and it forces you to be wary of all startups, even if they are different (Because you just never know). The issue is seldom the product idea itself, it's nearly always the delivery of the product...

I received my framework laptop some weeks ago. (I'm french) I was expecting a good device, but I am pleasantly surprised, it is more powerfull that expected. I have got a desktop pc with a good CPU and GPU for 3 or 4 years. In the CPU intensive tasks, like video editing and such, the framework is better and quicker at exporting those videos. Obviously the framework gets hotter (85°c approx.) and my desktop pc doesn’t overcome 60°c with a noctua air cooler. The lack of GPU makes it less performing in games and real time 3d work, but not as much as I thought. Even in big games, if I drop down the resolution and set the graphic parameters as « low » it work quite well. The screen, keyboard and trackpad are really great, the sound is OK not super powerfull but good. I have a macbook pro for my work and I have ever found the keyboard to be annoying to use. The trackpad is also quite « sticky », fingers don’t slide easily on the surface, the framework is way more enjoyable to use for me. The small form factor is so cool, even more with this tiny power supply. I think that it is a great device, with evolution and personalisation in mind at is core, and I hope that framework will continue on the long run, I am really happy to have get one !

Replaceable front screen frame. Cons: 1. Expensive 1000$!for base model 2. Expensive Up to 2000$ for 512 ssd and higher cpu. 3. Did not even mention any rtx card at all 3 models. 4. Current gen ddr4 slot and current gen pcie 4 slot are not modular as well as cpu and gpu in short if you upgrade the motherboard it will cost alot since it is pretty much the laptop itself. 5. They dont make their own chip, so all future motherboard with new cpu,gpu, next gen ddr5 slot, next gen pcie 5.0 will probably cost almost at the same price of a traditional laptop. 6. If for example you bought a new motherboard, you are stuck with worn lcd, worn keyboard, old gen ssd card, old gen ram, worn charger and worn or full of scratch laptop frames. For the price almost the same as the new laptop with everything new. 7. Not to mention the terrible cooling system design of laptop is terrible. Look at all the upcoming gaming laptop, they are way better than this. 8. In conclusion this laptop is not future proof, having a module IO will not compensate for the lack of fully upgradeable next gen hardware such as gen 5 pcie and gen 5 ram.

That would be a dream if the concept spread, as a Dev I have to wait until every arbitrary condition of the marketing, and design teams get satisfied to build a product. Then have to fight to put in features that matter, and fight to keep out features that ruin the experience. I show analytical data displaying why something is a bad idea, then have to fight about someones feelings. Then you step back and say jeez I am the only one here who can build this; how are my ideas the bottom of the barrel. I am about to apply for a job with Framework.

This is the part of "going green" that big corporations don't want: The ability to fix what you have instead of tossing it in the recycle bin and buying a new one. @@MVAS-mp9oo if fully upgreable was real then why is it the modular parts are only usb and hdmi (IO)? Alot of you are so confused about this fail laptop: Pros: 1. easily removable module usb a, hdmi, usb c, sd card 2. Easily removable battery and screen (But all windows laptop can be remove) 3.

That's the dream isn't it? Engineering first companies all start out this way, but don't last long as inevitably marketing and sales gets involved as more often than not these companies aren't sustainable and it's all downhill from there. They justify it with the massive increases in sales and inevitably learn "the masses" actually don't give a shit. All they care about is value/price. It's entirely possible to make a company like this sustainable, but to my knowledge it's never been successfully done in the electronics industry. Look up the video, "Why Enthusiast Brands will Betray You".
