I must say that Linus nailed it when he was talking about the power and reset for eject button being nearby each other. I can't tell you how many times I've accidentally ejected to this or accidentally put it in sleep mode. This is a major big welcome in my opinion that will probably get overlooked, but I'm glad that line is called it out. And I must say that overall the system looks a little bit more appealing to me being smaller. I'm probably going to wait off on the pro model, assuming that happens. But it's hard to argue that they made the right decisions when it comes to the design on this thing.

Good thing that the mainboard and heatshield and sinks dont have to be separeted like ever... the liquid metal makes it perform good over time and dust only accumulates outside on the fins this is good for maintenence imo

Unfortunately it looks like they're still going to need regular maintenance, and often. I kind of wish Sony inferred with their designs that you should lay the console down flat. At least once a week I have to service a PS5 due to overheating, most of the time the top half (area that has less conductive material and more heat when standing upright) of the chip is covered in oxidation and is effectively repelling all that liquid metal off of the mating surface.

@@VellahTV Also, while not an Issue for now, the other Thermal Pads (or whatever its called) for VRAM, NAND... other Chips might dry out over Time as well. I dont know exactly how long this will take and i assume Sony uses (very) good Components there to counter Issues but i also assume if you use your PS5 daily over longer Times when you are also living in a hot Area... this will make Issues at some Time in the Future regardless. It would be nice if you could open and maintain it more easily imo. It seems also overkill that they use SO many Screws. But i am no Expert.

My PCs run for over a decade without any thermal paste replacement, hell... my aio cooler has been running 24x7 for over a decade with no issues. They arent made worse than the RTX 2070 Super i just replaced the Thermalpaste the other Day (... like half a Year ago) so it doesnt overheat anymore and Blackscreens at 93 Degrees... So i dont know about you and your PC never needing to maintain anything... Point is a Console is just different than a PC while you might just change the Thermalpast easy on the CPU or change the GPU anyways and never have that Issue to begin with (the other Guy buying it might run into Problems though). Anyways, the Point is that a Console is used Way longer. Maybe even in 30 Years, who knows, and it would be nice to not have to unscrew 234 Screws just to get to the Thermalpads. That said i dont think the PS5 is constructed in a very good Way either, no.

I believe the half gloss look was intentionally meant to mirror the look of the original launch ps4 (before they revised it to be fully matte and later released the ps4 slim which was also fully matte)

The acoustic measurements on the plane were nice (I would recommend a tinnier angular spacing to make the graph less choppy). However, because sound can be emitted in all directions, this result doesn't mean that the total acoustic energy radiated by both devices is the same. Measuring total acoustic power will give you that information. Is a more tedious measurement to do, but it does not require an acoustic chamber 🙌🏻

I amazed at the short term memory of so many people who forget that for years the PS5 was sold way above MSRP. And people actually paid those scalper prices. My cousin paid 800€ for his PS5. The new MSRP Sony revealed is the exact same price the original PS5 is being sold at the moment in stores here, ignoring special sales, which the slim should also have. What`s hilarious is how people who already own a PS5 are getting upset about this.

Most seemed to think the rumors of this console, before they announced it was a slim, was going to be the "Pro". Funnily enough, this is a game changer for me. The original model was too big to fit in the niche of my rack, and my wife didn't want it sitting on top of it. I agree it would look strange with the over the top design. But the slim version will fit nicely, and if I decide to get the dark plates, it will be even more wife friendly lol

Wasn't the original PS5 heavily marketed around its custom 6 channel Storage Controller? Which was also the reason for its weird 825GB capacity. I only see 4 Packages now, 256GB each for 1TB in total, which means it is using less channels from the controller, which implies that parallel throughput of the system would be lower unless the controller is more efficient now per channel of NAND connected to it. Can you guys run a Speed Test on the Internal Storage to see if there's any different?

Heavily marketed? Depends. That was a small detail in the Road to PS5, barely a marketed feature. It was just a single part of its specs and probably not that important. Most of the custom stuff is on the actual controller, like hardware decompression. And I imagine there’s still the 6 levels of priority they mentioned. Oh, and the PS5 actually has a 12 channel interface, not 6, although I’m not sure how that translates to the nand chips

The number of channels doesn't necessarily equal the number of NAND packages or dies within, and less chips also doesn't necessarily mean a decrease in channels. For reference modern drives commonly have 8 channels while using 2 NAND packages, so Sony could very well keep 12 channels (it's 12 not 6) despite decreasing down to 4 packages in the Slim which likely each have four 512 Gbit dies. Also fewer channels wouldn't necessarily mean lower throughput, the speed of the channels matters.

On the USB ports, Linus actually is a bit wrong - it's actually the same speeds on all ports as the previous OG PS5, they've just changed the front USB-A to USB-C. - Both back USB-A ports are 10 Gbit. - One of the front USB-C - the one replacing the USB-A - is limited to USB 2.0 speeds (480 Mbit/s) and is basically only for charging controllers/peripherals. (I guess you can use it for USB headsets as well as those typically only need USB 2.0 speeds.) - The other USB-C is 10 Gbit and is to be used for the PSVR2 (but can be used for charging etc. as well, of course). It could cause some confusion if new users try to plug their PSVR2 into the wrong front port and it doesn't work and don't understand why.

Still not a fan of the cosmetic look or the lack of pre-PS4 backwards compatibility but got the PS5 Slim for Christmas. Easy initial setup but immediately have the downloads stuck in queued problem. Seems like something that should be at the top of Playstation's 'must fix' list. Still looking forward to the exclusive games but hoping for smoother functionality. Some noticeable negatives for now.

I was annoyed that they removed the stand from the package and kept the same price but now I'm doubting; it might be actually better to get the Slim. They actually made it better. Not going down "in nm" is fine, we are already at 6 nm, that's "huge". I'm kind of put off by the power draw, I admit I hadn't looked at it for the PS5, the whole point of me having consoles now that exclusives do also come to PC was lower power draw on long play sessions (every weekend multiplayer with friends).

Been using a PS5 for 6 months or so, it's been really great. I have a PC that's stronger than the PS5, but games are just so much more optimized on that console, and I adore the controller. Dualsense Edge is so unbelievably good. With the rising costs of PC components, it wouldn't surprise me if some people jump ship to consoles. This generation, the price to performance is unmatched.

Lol I took an 8 yr Hiatus on PS4 when I built my first PC Just got my PS5 about 3 weeks ago now, and just wow... I'm impressed.. seriously impressed, not just on the gaming performance/ resolution but the new features of screenshots and clipping . The capability of streaming your gameplay within PSN and other social apps. I mainly got it for GT7 and I am NOT disappointed lol at all. The racing is actually really good for not having to pay them every month and buy every piece of content. Not to mention, the graphics and smoothness are just amazing, not having a machine dump loads of heat in your room is just wow. I definitely have my uses for my PC in some titles, but damn.. I honestly don't see the reason in building out a $1,100 to $1,500 for the same performance, just to have more cheaters on multiplayer in so many titles when you can just pick up a ps5. I saw they announce valorant on Ps5 so does that mean that's gonna be a 100% K&M game ? All ps5 has to do is allow K&M on all games that take it on PC. Shit I'll buy a PS brand K&M as long as I get to game it on my desk =)

I always was an xbox guy, I mainly use my PC though for gaming. Well I only use my PC for gaming & one every 3 months I might play 20 minutes, on my console, I found out about GTA 5 for ps5 & I bought myself the console, First thing I noticed was SSD load times are super fast, Game play has been super smooth on gta online & almost no stuttering at all if anything. for $700 AUD the ps5 is WAAAAAY better than I even expected it to be when I paid for it. I've slowly been stopping myself from playing GTA on my pc, even though it runs at my screens refresh rate in ultra graphics, the updated ps5 version and 60fps with this console is genuinely amazing, the perfomance vsing a ps4 or xbox is second to none.

But the slim consoles are never performance upgrades, just smaller and quality of life things. It's also not just a repackaged it has more storage, better front IO, removable disk drives

you need to make a bit kit to accompany your driver so you dont need a fix it kit - then make your back pack with spaces for the driver and the bit kit

the disc drive of the ps5 and ps5 slim can read other bluray discs aswell such as if you have shrek on a disc you just pop it in the ol ps5 and it will read it and be able to play it(trust me i tried its awesome)

8:08 to take out the disk drive, you have to push the lock. NOT to pull out just like that. Read Manual first before You tear down it.

I just got a PS5 Slim and have a problem with the top USB-C port: it won't charge in rest mode but works fine when the system is fully operational. The lower USB-C port works fine in all situations.
