So why on Earth would you buy this over the 13" macbook pro? Yes, the pro is slightly bigger and a half a kilo heavier. But it's not like the pro is unwieldy, you can carry it with you just as easy as this one. And you get a lot more computer for the same money.
@ybra
@ybra 9 жыл бұрын
TalesOfWar I guess, if you fly a lot and only use the computer for basic tasks. It just seems silly to me to trade half the computers performance for half a kilo. And maybe I'm biased as I personally need the performance and the extra weight hardly makes a difference.
@bassl0va
@bassl0va 9 жыл бұрын
ybra I know someone who upgraded from their ~2010 13" pro to the new Macbook. They didn't need lots of power cause the only work done on it was typing and research based and otherwise it was facebook and youtube etc. They bought an iPad and ended up giving it to their dad because it wasn't any use for doing work on. I also have a friend that got a 15" pro because they do a lot of CAD and stuff, and though it's a nice machine it's too big and weighty for me. Upgraded air would be what I'd go for, something powerful enough for some Lightroom/Photoshop but also pretty portable. I hope they upgrade that line.
@realchimera
@realchimera 9 жыл бұрын
TalesOfWar Your argument doesn't make any sense. People who travel or fly lot always put laptops in carry on baggages, the weight of which most airlines don't check at all. None of the airline would care if your carry-on is 0.5kg heavier or lighter. And frequent travelers tend to carry as few things as possible. Carrying around a usb-c adaptor is a absurd. Macbook is a joke. It is only useful for Apple to extend its product line. It is created for poor and crazy Apple fans, most of whom can afford nothing fancy in real life, but only some cheap electronic devices like Apple products.
@ybra
@ybra 9 жыл бұрын
Dilly Vue But that is the point, if that is all you need from your computer than there are plenty of much cheaper alternatives. A chromebook seems fit your needs and will cost you a third as much.
@ybra
@ybra 9 жыл бұрын
Dilly Vue "MacBook has a faster processor" No it doesn't. The new mackbook have a Core M CPU with 2 cores at 1.1GHz. It got about the same performance as the new iPhone (which even outperformed the macbook in some tests). You get the same performance from chromebooks and windows laptops that are much cheaper. My point is, if you want a laptop for youtube, movies and facebook, there are plenty of much cheaper options. And if you are looking for performance, just get the 13" macbook pro which is twice the computer for the same price. Not to mention it actually have ports, should you which to connect it to anything.

I look for form AND function when looking at devices. I'm one of those people who used Windows their entire lives. I consider myself a mid-level user, who does more than just browse the web, but not a super hardcore gamer or multi-media creator. I've found some Apple products will do the job I want them to do without the hassle I've found in Windows operating machines. I still can never justify that cost though, it's the one downside I truly see to Apple products. Even when comparing for quality over quantity you still come up short, paying for a brand logo I guess. Same reason people buy any name brand product versus a generic.

Its an absolute fact that the screen on the Macbook is better, that's not even a debate, when you look at it from a technical standpoint. And I owned 4 models of the Zenbook because the backlight bleed was so bad I had to keep sending them back for replacements But beyond that, when it comes to resolution, technology used, and color spectrum, the Macbook screen is on a different level. The Zenbook trackpad is plastic, not glass, and the zenbook is overall not as smooth as the Macbook. But again, we are comparing a $600 ultrabook to a $1300 one, so obviously huge corners had to be cut.

I just don't get why people think everyone is a power user. The only thing I can argue with Apple about is their prices; not their actual functionality. If this notebook was priced at $300-$500, I'd easily buy it because it works well for pretty much any basic task you could imagine. If I want to be a power user, I'll use a desktop. I don't need a powerful laptop on the go especially if I have a desktop to work at comfortably with a mouse and [better] keyboard. But alas, I seriously can't complain about anything Apple makes besides their price. If you argue about anything besides the price such as functionality and their operating system, that's completely opinionated and is your own personal bias.

I still have mine, I bought it years ago on Craigslist for $300 with a decent dent on the back. It's still kicking surprisingly but barely. Half the space bar doesn't work because a crumb got underneath and broke the butterfly clips in 2019. The battery is also basically shot, I used to get a solid 6-7 hours out of it and now barely get 1 hour. All in all it was a great college rig, i used to toss it in my backpack with no case and hauled it around for 5 years. Did great for online school and Microsoft suite. I have since upgraded to a 12700k 3080 rig with a 35" ultra wide and that's a world of a difference. I still use this macbook for KZbin and occasional coding when I want to lay in bed.

[this was gonna be just a normal comment, but turned out to be something of a mini review/personal experience report for the 2016 version of this Mac] I’m impressed. This was a surprisingly elegant and honest review of this machine. I have the 2016 model, which is basically just a slightly boosted spec version of its predecessor, and I am honestly blown away. I completely agree with the iPad analogy too, I described it as “a 2017 iPad Pro with an additional 4gb of ram, and a keyboard slapped on it” and I feel there’s no better way of putting it. It is just a powerful iPad packed into a laptop experience, and boy does it do a fantastic job! It NEVER bottlenecks or gets thermal throttling, which is impressive for a fanless CPU laptop, it never even comes close to using up all of the available 8gb of ram, and it is all around very capable. I’ve been able to do screen recordings, basic iMovie editing, lots of photoshop, and even some more CPU intensive stuff with Logic X Pro; I wouldn’t recommend it for Logic projects with many software instruments, especially Alchemy or similar synths, or just channels with lot’s of plugins, but it handles input monitoring nicely, and never overloads the system. Finally for those whom are familiar, it plays old school RuneScape flawlessly (then again so does a toaster), but it also handles runescape 3 with relatively high settings (ultra draw distance, shadows, textures etc...) Although things do fall apart a little when trying out maximum settings all around. Honest opinion: 9/10

Because you are conflating windows with pcs. Windows can't have control over the hardware of other manufacturers. So, the user experience varies. Apple has tight control over all their hardware. Tablet with a keyboard is the best way to explain what this is. Absolutely loving this device as its so portable, great screen and apple os. Could care less about the ports as I use a USB probably once every few weeks to move photos around. I'll take a small dongle for that any day rather than carrying around a pro that has far more power and ports than I will ever need. If you are doing serious work, the macbook 2015 is obviously not for you, and better to go with a pro. But compared to the macbook air's ugly white bezel and weak screen, the macbook stands out as an elegant computer than can do more than people give it credit.

If your going to get a MacBook imo you should get the 13inch rMbP. The bad: +200$ (for same storage size), + 1.5lbs, + 1/4inch, - USB-C, - Colors, + 1.3inch of screen (could be good our bad depending on your needs). The good: 2.7GHz i5 vs 1.1ghz M cpu, Iris 6100 vs HD 5300 graphics, 1866MHz vs 1600MHz memory, + 1-2 hours battery life, + 2 USB-3 ports, + 2 thunderbolt-2 ports, + HDMI port, +SDXC card slot, +MagSafe 2 port, 720p vs 480p camera, better keyboard, 2560x1600 vs 2304x1440 screen, + 1ppi screen. Ok that last one was pretty much useless but you get my point.

Just think of it as a 11" MacBook Air($930) with a better screen, double the space and cool colours for $380 more. If u do need a USB adaptor, it's only $20. It's really not a waste of money.

(paraphrased) "This laptop is a proof of concept so Apple could field test the usb-c port before they deployed tens of millions of phones and tablets with it in the upcoming refresh" so... is that refresh coming any time soon?

My opinion: They (Apple) should have installed a USB-C on both sides of the laptop... so not only could you choose which side your power cable is plugged into to reduce any strain on the plug, but also so you can use the other one for an accessory, and still be able to charge it at the same time.
