I suppose Linus' argument was that an older person or someone not tech savvy wouldn't know how to go through the process of making one, or setting up a linux distro. Or just not have the time to do so. But considering I just bought a 64Gb usb for £11 [$15] and this 'product' is likely a preconfigured linux distro with preinstalled apps that you can get and do for free, you can imagine how much they're making in profit. There's also that this is quite literally a scam. The way it's advertised is to make the hardware run better, not install a new, less taxing operating system. Besides, if you bought this for gaming - unless you know how to use wine and the like, you're games are going to run equally slow, or slower anyways. A scam is selling a product that is advertised as doing something it doesnt do and quite simply, this exorbitantly priced product does not do as advertised - improve the performance of your hardware. It simply reduces the load on that hardware a bit.

Yup Mint really is the only distro I can install on non-linux people's machines and they immediately know how to use it. Mom's been running mint for quite a while and since I showed her Google Docs she hasn't asked another question. Mint is also way faster than windows obviously. She even set the printer up herself, it's legitimately easier than on windows if you have a typical HP/Epson/Canon/Samsung Inkjet printer. I installed TeamViewer just to be safe but I haven't needed to help her once.
@cros135 жыл бұрын
My 93-year old grandma was using ubuntu and late mint 10 years ago as well. I wouldn't put a novice or power user on anything but linux (or maybe macOS or chromeOS should the situation dictate), the only people who have an issue is the few stuck in the middle with too many windows-specific habits and niche use-cases.
@Sgtpeterenis5 жыл бұрын
I once transferred my mother to Ubuntu (but she just didn't use that computer - she uses my dad's office PC and her tablet), and I've transferred my girlfriend to Mint and Ubuntu as well. Even the printer worked with the standard configurator. I taught her to apt install and she managed to install one or two things, I believe. If you can google, you can use Linux. If you can't google, everything that comes preinstalled will most likely be enough for your computing needs.

Nope and Nope... There's no way a free Lubuntu distro and a 10 quid flash-drive should cost that much, plus it didn't even look as if it was configured properly for running on that media type. Scam!

It's not necessarily an old Firefox version, it's just an icon theme.

@@harshityashwardhan Without a theme it usually has the same logo as the current official one. You're dealing with some crappy maintainers if they don't upgrade the desktop icon.

@@nextlifeonearth Yes, without a theme it's the same logo, but it's not that they made a bad job at maintaining the icon theme - instead, they just lazily left the Lubuntu icon theme (designed like that to feel familiar) and left it as is... and because they noticed it looked too much like Lubuntu, they picked up OpenSolaris' window theme, Nimbus, and slapped it on top

taking into consideration that other browser can do what chrome does without all the ram consumption, i would say all this ram is used on doing things to spy on you. after all google is known for spying on everyone for all the advertisers stuff
