Gotta say I really appreciate the way you've approached this. I feel like a lot of "tech" youtubers will just give some pornographic close ups of it, footage of them playing it and then some general observations. All the effort with the dongles, the heat camera and everything is why you stand out as a channel that actually cares and knows their stuff.

Luke had some very logical input on why the screen resolution should've been bigger in one of the WAN Shows from a few weeks ago, but yeah Linus really convinced me in this vid that Valve made the right choice here. A small screen like that still looks plenty sharp enough for high motion gameplay at 720p-ish resolutions with the benefit of also not stressing the hardware out like 1080p would, so you have some flexibility on settings vs framerate as opposed to trying to make everything work at 1080p and just hoping you can get the settings just right to at least be able to hit 30 FPS.

STEAM Deck is an actual a PC on a mobile- feel and just like a PC I can use import all my games that is non-STEAM based and I hope Valve would actually work with GOG on this one as well. CDProjekt better work with Valve on STEAM Deck because it will also help their market since half of their market are also using STEAM. So it's no brainer to work with Valve when half of your market is also using STEAM to capture more customers. EDIT Game-Developers who are low-funded like me would definitely want GOG to push forward on working with Valve on a cross platform. ---- Give us STEAM and GOG cross platform on STEAM Deck as well this will allow us DRM and DRM-Free crowd to do what we want to keep our games.

@@benm3382 exactly, Also had a 2k smartphone but you only noticed the resolution in VR otherwise it was just a waste to have such a high resolution screen. I als once had a 360 or 480 p tv which used a cathode ray (old tv) that screen had a certain amount of leaking in between pixels and a effect like a static mist over the display. Resolution was terrible, but it made all games look great because it made you ise yohr umagination to improve the graphics. Due to the leaking and static mist you also did not see pixels at all and it looked better than a 2k tv(in gaming, not in reading or photo edit ting or such)

Preorders are only stupid for software, which can be duplicated infinitely. For hardware, or back in the day when all games came on physical disks, games too, preorders were the best way to make sure customers got what they were after. We should still be doing preorders for hardware, all the time, since it's the best way to both overcome scalpers and make sure supply can meet demand.

honestly, the most attractive feature of the steam deck for me is already having a comprehensive library of all my favourite games. the experience of buying a console (the switch for me) is always soured by those first few weeks with very few games and little reason to play it over your pc
@OneThousand98
@OneThousand98 3 жыл бұрын
That's kind of your own fault for not buying more games when you buy a console (the switch for you) though? I have like 300 games in my Steam Library, but most of them are total garbage. I actually play two of them, Civ 6 and PuBG. This handheld would be absolutely awful to play Civ6 on, and you might be able to get PuBG to work on it, but the framerate would be low and graphics settings would need to go to low / medium. Even still the controls on the Steam Deck are awful for FPS games, so I can't see myself playing PuBG on it... Whereas on the Switch I have Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Mario Odyssey and Zelda BOTW, four great games which work really well on handheld / joypad controls. I think the biggest issue the Cleveland Steamer has is that most PC games are not in any way set up for Joypad control. Those that are, are usually low-budget indie platformers which are just... meh.

Agreed, well said. Switch is uncomfortably small to grip for my average sized hands.

Yeah honestly I would have been fine with the switch adapting the wii u form factor because as much as people hate the wii u man was it nice and comfy to hold

Yea the only way I’ll be transporting this around is in its case in a bag. I don’t get why people make a big deal about these handheld devices being “pocketable” when the smallest ones are still about the same size as a small tablet which unless your wearing Jnco parachute jeans aren’t really pocketable either

The main reason I haven't bought a Switch yet is because I have largish hands. I don't think I'd find the joycons comfortable.

Yeah, if there's something Valve has shown they really like to focus on, it's ergonomics. I love what my Switch can do but I think it's kind of uncomfortable to actually use, so I'm hoping for an improvement on that.

Man, I've heard of this channel for years, but don't think I've ever watched a video until now. What an absolute pro. Easily the most prepared of any channel I've seen drop a hands-on video today. Energy is infectious too. Great stuff!

Absolutely! Welcome to the channel. Linus is amazing at giving his take on tech and he does it in an entertaining low key way while still getting you all the info you want. I can always count on him saying how he feels about something because I know he isn’t just trying to build up a company for sponsorship. He is always very clear with his viewers and any sponsors that he will give his honest opinion on a product no matter if he is getting paid to show it or not. I can recall several videos where a company sponsored him to review their product and he pointed out its flaws and sometimes even said he doesn’t recommend buying the product.

If anyone could "drop" a hands on video ....it's Linus. 🤣

Linus is an OG legend who does what he wants. I’m primarily an Apple user but even I love this channel and his other channels, if that tells you anything. He usually has pretty fair assessments of everything and doesn’t sugar coat it, even if the company is a long-time sponsor, like Intel. And he seems to be a legitimately good guy with a nice family who seems to take good care of his employees and they seem to have a pretty good retention rate, at least among the on-screen talent. He doesn’t live lavishly like other huge YT channels, he instead invests a lot back into Linus Media Group. I mean hell, he only recently got a nicer house than I have, and I’m just your average run-of-the-mill web developer. Although lately he was talking about buying a 150” miniLED TV that cost a couple hundred thousand, but was going to try to get 10 videos worth of content out of it, including liquid cooling it to heat his new pool, lol. I love the crazy ideas they come up with for videos, and that keeps me coming back, along with the quality people that work here.
