As an electrical safety manager, you really should use romex and not an extension cord to permanently wire that TV. It will probably be fine, but extension cords are not meant for permanent installations. The cord jacket gets brittle and cracks when they haven't been moved in some time. Creating a potential fire hazard. But like I said, it's probably fine for now, but if you're going to have that TV there for years, you should definitely change it out.

How often does this "brittle jacket" come up? I can't say I've ever seen a regular orange cord have any issues from just sitting around. I've got cords that sat unuse3d for 20 years that I use regularly now... hell, I have one that I know wasn't touched, hanging on the wall in my grandparents basement since my dad moved out , hung there for 45 years and still is good as new. I have seen it on black, commercial grade cable meant for permanent instillation, when changing out hanging light fixtures, the jacket just crumbling apart on maybe 20 year old cable, but on an orange cord? never.

@davedujour19 ай бұрын
Once when I was about that age I was on a job pulling several 25-pair Cat5 cables between buildings. We had a 55 gallon drum of lube that we just stuck our arms into and rubbed along the cables. There was only a couple 30-45deg turns in there, but it was still one of the hardest pulls we ever did at that job. You can never have too much lube.
@Sir_Defyable9 ай бұрын
I don’t know about building code where Linus lives, but if there are similarities to NEC 400.8, that extension cord likely isn’t rated to be used in-wall. The concern goes up as the voltage goes up and this is about as high of a voltage as you can get in a residential setting. Even the HDMI cable should be rated CL3 for in-wall use. Just FYI
@ydoucare559 ай бұрын

@jjjacer9 ай бұрын
IIRC for running power cables for code, if it is behind a wall it needs to be romex, if its going through conduit it usually needs to be non jacketed, so like THHN/THWN wire. That said you can do what you want, it should work as long as the amperage is not to high for the conductor size and distance, just note if their is a fire caused by it your insurance will probably not cover it, also if you sell the house you would want to remove it before inspection.
@Puck90a8 ай бұрын
Was thinking the same thing. I'm in the US, and I was wondering if Canada is different. But if anything, I'd assume Canada is more strict about stuff like this than the US is.

If you ever find yourself in a situation where the pull wire is missing, attach a small plastic bag to a pull wire, use a vaccum on the other end to apply suction and you're done.

Elijah's inexperience and general uncertainty is exactly the kind of jank energy the channel needs. Keep it up buddy, you're doing great ❤

Thank you for something a little less scripted. It's comforting to know that everyone has their missteps sometimes.

Okay, this is one of the funniest LTT videos I've seen in a long time. From Jamie being ready to throw hands, to Elijah being the most relatable person, to Linus using his inner Kratos to name his son BOY constantly. This is one quality video XD Also, those LTT cable management things are amazing. I'm planning on revamping my setup next year, and I'm definitely picking those up. (Also, Linus, when will you finally announce a European branch of your store???)
