I'm getting this comment in early as I hope people will read it. Many people in Australia would greatly appreciate an Australian Amazon affiliate code and possibly if maybe just Linus or anyone or even everyone from the Linus Media Group could come down under to Brisbane/Sydney and maybe do a talk and signing. I know this is unlikely but it would mean allot to me and a many other people in Australia. Just remember We love you all to!

Here in Norway you pay a small fee when you purchase electronics, typically equalent of $2-3 USD. But that means all stores that sells electronics have to take old electronics back as well. So most electronics shops have a large container in the back where you can deliver used electronics, no matter if you bought it at that shop or not. And we have several companies that purchase used mobile phones, broken or functional.

Our business does a contract recycle with a good sir that does everything but Printers and CRTs but we have a friend that owns another local shop that takes care of the rest. Pretty much our guys take huge bulk say about 1000 gallon containers at a time. Awesome way to get rid of those Pentium 4 Dells that were so darn popular back when. Have also heard that our recycle center in South Texas will pay about $1000 for a 5 gallon paint bucket worth of CPUs. Always good to recycle your old items.

4:19 Here in Germany it is really common that stores have such containers for lamps and batteries. We have a law that every company that sells electric goods has to take the same kind of stuff back for free. Maybe IKEA just uses the same concept in the US and Canada too. Big stores that sell washing machines or fridges have to take the old ones back for free too. Otherwise we have recycling centers or scrapyards that are all certified for special treatment of those goods.

My city also has recycled pickup of paper, plastic, glass, and metal items with garbage pickup funded threw the water and sewer bill. I sell to recycle like aluminum and copper and even steel. And I compost so my garbage that goes to the landfill or incinerator id very little. Yard waste is also picked up to make mulch that is free to pick up at the landfill yard. Broken glass can be picked up or dropped off in a special bin to not pose a threat to sanitation workers. :) Good video!

They all fired up like new and are still running for a bunch of kids. With ebay parts they were all around $100 to fix. Trouble is getting the laptops. They trickle in but a big demand for a cheap laptop.

Also buying used or refurbished electronics. Most of the time items are in excellent condition and are fast enough for light tasks. Cellphones from 2012 onwards are capable enough for everything except maybe heavy gaming. An used LG G2 Verizon goes for 80$ and it's fullHD, 2GB RAM and quad core processor, and the battery last almost a day.

I work at a place where people and businesses can donate old electronics (they do charge for CRT monitors and TVs). Good stuff gets refurbished and distributed to their stores while bad stuff gets broken down and recycled. It's a non-profit E-steward and R2 certified organization. We refurbish computers from higher end Pentiums up to i7s (if we get them).

FYI if you live in the EU and your computer equipment was made after 2005, it is the responsibility of the manufacturer to recycle it. This usually means you can take it to any retailer that sells that equipment for recycling free of charge. It also covers large/small household appliances, electrical and electronic tools, batteries, toys and sports equipment etc etc.

I can totally picture Linus waking up in the middle of the night with a video idea. LMFAO! Love your videos and just wanted to send my appreciation from drought stricken Southern California. I just updated the fans on my gaming rig to Noctuas and I must thank you for your video on these fans as they are worth the money. My rig now is running at 27c on Iddle as opposed to 40c before the switch. Love it!

In my country we have the return stations and outside electronic shops where we can deliver electronics and washers and fridges for free, just dump it outside or in a container and they do the rest, they only ship it to another place where they take care of it, but for us its free and easy to just put it somewhere.

In our village there's a public accessable landfill for gardening garbage, old furniture, recycling paper and even a large bin for old electronics. Everything is for free apart from TV's. Monitors and fridges. But you just pay 6 bucks at our town hall per device and then you are allowed to dispose it there. The money they get from recyling the electronics is used for getting those bins. So no profit is made. My dad keeps recycling serious, we even have a spare trash can where he puts aluminum and stuff in there. When its full, we bring it to the big recycling company in the next town and get around 40 bucks for it. May npt sound like much, but still, its money :D

i reuse the old ribbon cables in place of gardening twine for supporting my tomatoes for instance. you can separate the ribbon into as many strands as required for the particular job. better than going in the bin.

In my town, there's a little warehouse with a shed outside of it. People can go and drop off used old computers and devices in the shed to be recycled. There's a bunch of cameras all around and inside of the shed, as it's for dropping off junk, not picking up other people's junk. Most people in my town have no idea such a place exists, I only know because my father took me with him to help unload older dell optiplexes that had no HDD's or RAM left in them that his work didn't need any more.

Where I live, the local landfill charges 43 cents (US) per pound for electronics recycling. Most of the local people who take things for free won't accept CRT's. The landfill will accept those, but at 43 cents per pound, that can get expensive.

Our company disposes of a lot of e-waste (computers, laptops, smartphones, servers, etc.), which we bring to a recycling center. I usually sift through the e-waste a day or two before, check what is working and what isn't and take the working and still usable "e-waste" with me to spruce it up and sell. From the non-working e-waste I remove components (RAM, CPU, expansion cards, even laptop screens, etc.) and sell them on eBay. Our company still gets rid of the e-waste, I save working components from being destroyed, make a tidy profit and others get working hardware for a low price. And nothing is wasted.

We have 3 or 4 old/slow laptops that we've been waiting to dispose of. Paranoid about the hard drives being reused / info stolen when recycling. I know... probably could just wipe a giant magnet over them. Also considering reusing the screens for some DIY photography projects. Anyway... rambling on. Great videos, been watching you a lot lately! Cheers.
