I used to work for Walmart in Bentonville, and one of my starting positions was support for all of these types of items. Since I was able to pull up all sorts of info about them, I was able to find out most of them are just rebrands from bigger tech companies. That’s why they look similar, and aren’t completely terrible (some of them anyways). For example, most of the Onn. SD cards are from PNY, and a lot of their TVs have been Hisense and TCL rebrands.

Linus hit the nail on the head when he mentioned his 13-14 year old self. These products are fine for the price and likely perfect for kids. Honestly, it seems to me this stuff does exactly what it should. It's reasonably priced, does it's job decently and looks ok. 13 year old me used to buy bargain bin headsets, keyboards, Mice and speakers at the local electronics store to fit it in my budget. If my Parents had gotten me something like this equipment for Christmas i would have been damn happy. This is a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" situation where you could upgrade later when you have the money but there is no reason to rush since what you have does the job.

@mizinoinovermyhead.7523 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThatLaloBoy I don't know anything about either set of speakers, but I'll tell you (sitting here looking at my MSI costco monitor) that there are some trade offs. The monitor from ONN in the video is 1440p (they mention that at some point), but not high refresh I don't think. However my MSI is 1080p, but 144 hz, so I'd assume that it would depend on the use case. For gaming and content creation the MSI is likely a smidge better, but the ONN is likely better for content consumption and still decent for games. So if you want the higher resolution the ONN isn't going to be a horrible choice.

I am not gonna lie, I have A LOT of ONN stuff, and honestly, it has all treated me extremely well. I almost bought the keyboard about a year ago when I was looking to upgrade, but found a smaller keyboard that was very nice used for the same price. I do however use their "gaming" webcam for my streams! And its okay! Not great, but it was over half the cost of a Logitech c920. I exclusively use their USB cables for micro usb, C and apple chargers. They're extremely cheap and good quality. I have a onn car phone mount, it has lasted 3 years now going strong and was only $5. My gf has a phone mount we got at microcenter for $15 that only lasted a year. I also have a pair of their wireless earbuds, the battery lasts FOREVER, and they've been working with me since 2017 when I was working at UPS, all the way to today! Those were $5 at the time, and are now, I believe $10? I also bought an onn gaming mouse that I used when I first built my PC. My gf uses it now and actually prefers it over the Logitech mouse I gave to her... I dont know why though, but thats lasted 2 years now! Her brother also has an onn tv that has lasted 3 years now. I have more than that, but I cant think of a time their product has disappointed. I never went into buying their stuff with the thought I was buying top tier products. I always thought they'd be things that would work for a month and that would be it, but I was wrong! They're cheaply built products that work well honestly. I do plan to keep buying their stuff. I have a good setup now, so I dont need anything more now, but if you're tight on budget buy onn stuff, seriously! It's surprisingly great!
@DannyBeans

Onn really does give good value for the money. I don't think I've ever had a "well, you get what you pay for" moment with them - it all works well enough that I never give it a second thought, which is really the best you can hope for from a budget brand.

CRI is a rating of how close light is to sunlight. Florescent lighting for example is known for having an incredibly poor CRI as it only emits spikes of light and not a spectrum like incandescent. Incandescent is till basically the standard as it was nearly perfect compared to sunlight. LEDs are a large jump from florescent but still behind incandescent more emitting similar to a TV.

CRI is a rating of how close a light is to a black body emitter because its physically impossible to heat a filament to 5600K sunlight is used as the standard. For warm lights they are compared to a 3200K incandescent. This is why 2700K lights only have CRI of 98 or so

Something I think is interesting is that Dollarama is also getting into selling stuff for a gaming setup. Obviously since they are a dollar store they aren’t coming out with monitors and computers/computer parts and chairs, but they do have a store brand gaming mouse for 4$, and the other day I picked up some hdmi cables from there. Comparatively I think my Dollarama is kind of small so I don’t know what other gaming stuff they might have.

Cheap, but not cheap enough for my HS/college days. I would find really old, used stuff for really cheap, often free. and fix it up or mod it to suit my needs. My favorite one I actually still use for my setup when I'm watching a movie or playing a game with speakers instead of headphones. It was a boom box/stereo receiver from the 70's with something fried in the tape deck circuitry that was preventing you from switching to radio or aux. I got it for "free, as is", nipped the wires to the tape deck motors and reader head and got the thing to work again. I now have it driving a 10" stereo sub with high-end pass-through that my dad thew out and the original boombox speakers with 4" mids and 1" tweeters. I even get full band Shortwave so I get to listen to all of the amateur and pirate stations broadcasting out of the western Slavic countries and Scandinavia when the ionosphere expands at night.

Yes and no. With the volume set low, it does sound acceptable, but it shouldn't be clipping like that ever. Any semi-decent microphone should still be able to deliver a clean signal at 100% volume without gain. You might need the volume to hear yourself over game audio and others in the chat and if you can't get it that way, your only other option (short of installing special mixer software) is turning everything down in the windows sound mixer, then raising the system volume way above normal level and that's a royal pain in tha butt!

Yeah I picked up one of their thumb drives last week. I mean it's slow because it's got a small cache but 32GB for $5.50 and I had it in hand instantly. (That's the USB 2.0 price. I Knowing the cache issue I didn't bother paying $1.50 more for USB 3.0.)

I purchased an Onn product _once_ . All I did was write Linux Lite to it then try to use it to install on my laptop. It *literally* fried, as in got so hot components burned. I could smell it. When disconnecting, the heat was sufficient to damage skin. Less than 45 minutes of use after opening the package, and it didn't even do the single job it was purchased for. Should have spent the extra few bucks to get a Sandisk. Since then, buying Onn products has always seemed no different than literally burning your money to me. Seeing entire shelves flooded with their crap motivated me stop shopping for electronics at Walmart. But if you've got the funds to risk then go for it. I might have just gotten unlucky.

I have the ONN 4K Android streaming boxes I picked up for $20 for my secondary TV(kids TV and the bedrooms), and they are really solid, and the $15 ONN Android Streaming sticks for 720p/1080p if you are really broke ain't bad either although they only run Android 9, but at least they still get security, and app updates, and the remotes are good on both models.
@CommodoreFan64

@@trajectoryunown You did get unlucky, as I have a few of the ONN 16GB USB 2.0 flash drives(better compatibility with older systems)one I use for basic data back up at work of office files, another has Chrome OS Flex installer on it, and another has Solus Linux Live boot on it, and for me they work as good as any other USB 2.0 key I've owned, and overall the ONN branded stuff has worked fine for me. To be fair, just about every brand is going to have a few duds when it comes to flash memory, as I once got a 4GB Sandisk CF card for my Nikon D60 DSLR that was nearly $80 at the time, and it was a dead out of the package, and I had to fight Best Buy to get a refund.

Plus the tablet is one of the ONN Pro 10.1in tablets with 3GB of RAM running Android 11, in combo with a logitech K480 keyboard, which handles all my task just fine.

Walmart used to sell a brand called "Blackweb" for gaming peripherals. I bought a 60W speaker setup, and it started to smell like burning plastic within 20 minutes. I returned it and got a Cyber Acoustics set of PC speakers. I also bought a Blackweb keyboard, which I still have on a shelf. The keyboard was not too bad for a membrane keyboard. My issue was that it was WIDE. It had these side plate things that had lights and were entirely unnecessary. It was cheap and it worked, though. Also, I REALLY think that people should be tweaking their mics using Equalizer APO. I have a Blue Snowball you probably would not believe is a Blue Snowball. It can really make an extreme difference in the sound of a mic.

Wait I didn't know you can tune mics with EQ APO. I also have a blue snowball. What settings do you use?
@DustyTheDog
@DustyTheDog 2 жыл бұрын
@@thephantompsychic Yeah, you can use EQ APO to adjust any audio device. Whether it is input or output. I use the PEACE skin for EQ APO. Just makes things way more easy. You might have to reinstall EQ APO to do this, but in the options to select which devices you want to install for, select your devices and include the Blue Snowball. One more thing: I have the white model with cardioid pickup pattern. There are different pickup patterns for Snowball mics. My personal settings are boosted gain(becaus setting up a mic with windows is just....no...), and I have the bass turned down a tiny bit, like -2. I was finding a humming noise when I talked. I don't have a very deep voice, only slightly deeper than linus in the videos. I also use the NVIDIA Broadcast for the AMAZING noise cancelling. This gets rid of room hisses and background noise from my AC. It gets hot here in lower Colorado, so a fan or AC is on most of the time. For a pop filter, i just use some foam from another product and a rubber band to hold it around the mic
