Linux FTP Server with CHROOT Jailed Environment Part I

In this first part of video i will show you how to configure FTP server in chroot jailed environment in order to restrict users to their home directories and only shared directories, thus making FTP server more secure. We will use vsftpd server. In part II of this video series i will show you a script to create multiple users and assign them ftp group with single key.

You are awesome. I kept making mistake of writing 'writeable' as 'writable' and kept losing connectivity to the FTP server. Then I realized that I was making a spelling mistake. hahahA . 'e' of 'write' must stay there . goddamn linux . EVENTUALLY SOLVED ISSUE THOUGH . MY BEST GRATITUDE !

Thanks bro but it did not work for me. it is still the same. i uncommented chroot_local_user=YES and added allow_writeable_chroot=YES and restarted the vsftpd. what is that?

but then can't the user upload a php script that can navigate up the file system to higher directories? if the apache/nginx user isn't also chroot'd then what's the point?

You would only upload within your own directory. This is the main point

You can useradd and the jailed environment will be available for new user as well.

not working for me, any help is much appreciated chroot_local_user=YES allow_writeable_chroot=YES i did same as you showed , but i get Response: 500 OOPS: chroot Error: Critical error: Could not connect to server using centos 7 and latest vsftpd build

Just realized it was my bad, I am actually trying to get it to work on SFTP, hence I needed to modify the sshd config. now it worked.. your video is correct for normal FTP.
