I just watched the third video in the series and I noticed when he changed his mac address to 00:00:00:11:11:11, and then typed ifconfig, the mac address had changed but he did not have an IP address. Do you assign a static ip to your network card or will you still be able to get one via dhcp? did not get a chance to try this as yet. thanks again

This is probably a stupid question, but here it goes: When attempting to impersonate a device and gain access to a network, how exactly do you access the network and evade security mechanisms such as intrusion detection systems mentioned in the video? And how do you research and understand the target network? Also, how do you know if you are hacking them and not the other way around? I was thinking about this the other day, what if they leave everything vulnerable in order to lure you in and hack your systems? Thanks in advance. 🙂

nmap is legitimately the most underappreciated application. I know other IT professionals that use inferior tools not knowing that nmap is like the best swiss army knife of networking. The reference to the "original internet only having 4 nodes" is a popular myth or misconception. It's not accurate that the original internet was limited to just four nodes. The "4" in IPv4 actually refers to the 32-bit address space, which allows for approximately 4.3 billion unique addresses. The concept of IPv4's 4.3 billion addresses is derived from its 32-bit address structure, not from the original internet having only four nodes. In reality, the early ARPANET (a precursor to the modern internet) had more than just four nodes. It was designed to connect various research institutions, and while it started with a few nodes, its architecture was not limited to just four. IPv4's address space limitation became a problem due to the exponential growth of internet-connected devices, leading to the eventual development and widespread adoption of IPv6, which provides an immensely larger address space to accommodate the increasing number of internet-connected devices.
