Thought I'd recommend you check out jgmenu also, I like it better than xmenu. I have it set up like AwesomeWM does where a right click on the desktop or a right click on the titlebar at the top will launch 'jgmenu_run'

@@williamjohn1815 Nothing I just like jgmenu for a simple awesomewm/openbox style right click menu. Rofi would take awhile to configure to look like jgmenu, all I did was comment out a few things, change some colors, took me 3-4 mins.

Just wanted to mention that you make great videos, especially about or with debian/devuan linux. I recently switched to debian myself and I like it. very stable and just works for me. I began to dislike the constant updates with arch and the potential 'breakage' of things. Not that it happened often, but once in a while there's a hiccup so to speak. I find debian very nice and relaxing, i don't feel the anxiety of updating every other day or so anymore. But that is my personal experience of course. Arch is great and works well, but it just isn't for me personally. I hope you continue your videos about or with Debian and/or Devuan. Thank you for sharing your experiences with debian/devuan and window managers.

As I tried dwm several months ago, I use your previous slstatus video to setup my slstatus. You said in this video that you have issues with dwmblocks and I tried dwmblocks after and I'am pretty fine with it. I mean, you can do all is done in slstatus, refresh individual blocks on events, but i prefer the per block refresh time handling in dwmblocks.

@thierry bo. I also prefer the block refresh time off dwmblocks to slststus, but it seems that every time I've tried it, there was either an issue not loading all the modules, wonky click action, or some random rendering issue. But it only seems to happen when I had more that 4 modules. So I left it alone. It is MUCH better now though.

Another great video - thank you so much! One thing I didn't figure out yet is, how to let slstatus automatically start. I don't use xinitrc, as I have a graphical login, where I can switch between xfce and dwm (xfce will be dedleted one day). As I understand, I can use a startscript - but where do I have to put that? Thanks so much for helping and your great videos

Damn needs the autostart patch, then you can put a start up script in ~/.dwm/autostart.sh The syntax is the same as your xinitrc

LD...this was awesome! ...and I'm not talking about the WM! Hahaha! That xmenu is pretty nice. As much as I like keyboard driven WMs, I like my GUIs too. I guess I'm a bit of a keyboard-hypocrite? Nice LD! Function Over Form is sometimes the way to go. I for one like the chances. :-) I will get around to look at them as I really need to get back to DWM. Lots of thing have been getting in the way (Life) and I have not been able to do much in this area. I did start by installing EndeavourOS/Cinnamon and I installed DistroTube's build of DWM/Dmenu and I was liking it, then stuff got into the way. I had it on a Laptop and I loaned it to my sister because her desktop had hardware issues I was trying to sort out. Then she called and said that the laptop would not boot after a Arch update. I got it back and the boot folder was empty along with my DWM partition, gone. So I just reinstalled EndeavourOS and gave it back to her... :-( Lost all the stuff I had changed in the DWM build... so sad... :-( You know I am stuck on SpectrWm still so it has not been a rush to start something new as I have lots of things to finish but I do want to give this a try... Lol Oh the irony, I'm retired and have no time... Lol I got 3 projects of my own that are almost done but can't seem to get back to them... Lol Thanks for the video LD! LLAP

Having a problem with the network.sh on slstatus. Would you mind helping me out?

@@linuxdabbler Hi and thanks for helping me out. the network.sh just show the wifi icon but no information. When I try wifi_essid it says n/a. I have tried everything and can't figure it out. And when I run, iw dev it shows wlan0 as the interface.

@Kelley Law. Have you tried running the commands from the script individually? ip a | grep wlan | grep inet | wc -l Is the command I use for wifi. That is set as a variable and put into an if statement That echos the IP address if there is one, the icon(s). I didn't add anything to grab the wifi network name, but maybe I should later on.

That is what the if statement is looking for... So if the wifi variable = 1... It should give you the wifi icon. You may have to edit your hostname variable part of the script to get your IP address to show up.
