i dont know much about the lore but at the bossfight i think of the black-faced sonic as a victim and normal sonic the killer, black-faced sonic/victim tries to fight at first but when he realizes he cant win by fighting, he tries to run away. but that doesnt work either, i also think the black-faced sonic melting into the ground is another way of saying that he went into the ground (or got buried after he died)

I have a theory, now im not matpat but thats okay. When you climb up the moutain i think its meant to be the people driving up the mountain , when you fight the other sonic it might be to represent him fighting himself trying to get himself to bury the body, then when sonic ultimately melts into the floor its meant to be the victim buried, after that when your just standing, then your face falls off followed with a game over, this might mean he ultimately killed himself not being able to deal with the dread.
