Christal, you are such a blessing to share the skill and break it down for us trying to understand how you approach the song. I have issues keeping time. I also notice that when I'm focused on the click, I try to race through/ slow down through the sub divisions. If you have any advise on how to improve the timing would be a great help.
@stalj3 ай бұрын
Most welcome! You've made a great observation of a weakness of yours; the next step would be to isolate and work on that specifically. Let's just take a bar of 8th notes and 16th notes for a start, perhaps with the click at 50bpm; can you count out loud in time consistently? (1 n 2 n 3 n 4 n 1ena2ena3ena4ena etc) If it's a problem, then you'd need to slow down further and/or work with a smaller subdivision on the metronome. Once that's in time, you've eliminated your brain as the issue. Then try playing it with your hands and repeat this process, and with all the bpms you can manage. Then expand to different subdivisions and rhythms or add another limb tapping in quarters or 8ths. I'm summarizing the process a lot here but hopefully that gives you some ideas how to get started addressing the issue you've highlighted!

Grazie Christal. ❤ 😇

Take it slow and one small bit at a time and you will be able to do it eventually! Helps to try and isolate the issue - is it hand speed? Foot speed? Accuracy on 16th notes? Left hand and right foot unisons? Then isolate and work on that first! Keep at it 😁

Thank You Christal! You make a great job. I just have one question, please: At minute 3'12 You play the Crash Cymbal. In what kind of notes do You subdivide Your roll there? You play singles, right? Beginning with sextuplets on the "and" of beat 1, continuing on beats 2, 3 and you finish with 32nds on the "and" of beat "4"? Thanks for help and God bless You abundently above all You can imagine! :-)
@stalj Жыл бұрын
Good question! Yes, it's all single strokes, but I'm not consciously subdividing into anything in particular. However, I have spent many hours playing all subdivisions from triplets, 16ths, quints, sextuplets, etc, and lots and lots of suspended cymbal crescendoes, so my hands know how to stay on the grid and get to the "1" smoothly! This is one of the things where you just need to sit down and spend some time getting a smooth and even cymbal swell down and it'll be with you for life!

This is phenomenal!!! I always appreciate your transcripts. Do you happen to have a paper copy of this? I don't have a screen big enough to see this as I'm playing. There are some amazing techniques in here that would be good to learn.

You can use two hands for the 16ths on that too, I just like the one-handed vibe 😅
