African lions predominately form prides as a survival tactic against other lions and predators as the savannah acts as a ecosystem where prey and predators have to live close to each other. In The deserts and forest, it is very open, and male lions from Asia do not stay around for their cubs.

Lions are social cats. I have never seen a female be so affectionate with a male lion. Maybe she is flirting because she is coming into estrus getting ready to mate.They have scent glands on their faces so when they rub their faces together, they exchange scents. They will have a pride scent which increases their bond.
